Rank LCD TV Points
1 Samsung LE40F71BX 2.5
= Sharp LC42XD1E 2.5
3 Sony KDL40W2000 1

Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder, but we thought that the 42XD1E's and LE40F71BX's gloss black bezels and partially hidden speakers gave them a contemporary and minimalist edge over 40W2000's passé hanging-speaker-strip approach.

Screen Size

1 Sharp LC42XD1E 3
2 Samsung LE40F71BX 1.5
= Sony KDL40W2000 1.5

Sharp's 42" XD1E is more than 10% larger than the 40" screens of Samsung LE40F71BX and Sony KDL40W2000 in terms of movie real estate.

Rank LCD TV Points
1 Samsung LE40F71BX 3
2 Sony KDL40W2000 2
3 Sharp LC42XD1E 1

Each of these 3 LCD TVs featured 2 x HDMI ports, but the Samsung LE40F71BX took top spot thanks to its ability to accept 1080p signals through HDMI, VGA and component inputs (overscan is taken into account under the Detail & Sharpness section), and its versatile multimedia compatability (9-in-2 multi memory card slot, USB and PictBridge connector). The Sharp LC42XD1E finished bottom due to its lack of dedicated component input (shared with VGA port through adaptor cable), and its awkward 3.5mm stereo jack audio input port in place of the more common dual-RCA version.
