Panasonic TH42PH9 Audio Aspect

The Panasonic TH42PH9 does not come with any speakers. It does, however, have 2-way speaker terminals on the left and right side at the back of the panel that can output audio to external speakers:

speakers

Most Panasonic TH42PH9 owners will depend on their external home theatre system for sound, but there are those who will prefer connecting a pair of speakers to these terminals to use the plasma's internal amplifier when watching TV... after all you don't really need to watch the news in 5.1 surround with thumping bass. Panasonic's official speakers - the SP42P8W - costs a whooping £220 per pair; a cheaper option would be to plug in any old computer speakers that can accept 2-way bare wires. Sure the sound won't be spectacular, but if you need reinforcement you can always call upon your big guns (surround sound system) at the flick of a switch.

Background Noise

Our Panasonic TH42PH9 powered up with a soft whoosh as the internal fans whirled into action. There was also a faint electronic buzz on the top of the panel which was only barely audible from 2 feet away. From 6 feet away even with the panel switched on with a blank screen we couldn't really tell if it was on or off... that should give you an indication of how we weren't in the least bothered by these noise.
