Philips 42PFL7662D Review

Philips 42PFL7662D/05

Have you ever wondered why you can't find any professional reviews of Philips 42PFL7662D in the usual AV magazines or on any website, despite it having gone on sale for more than one month?

It's because Philips will only send out their top-tier models (for example Cineos 32PF9731D and 42PF9831D/10) to journalists who wish to review their televisions. In other words, any test of the Philips 42PFL7662D LCD can only be conducted if the reviewer actually bought the television him/herself. Frankly, who would be bold (or stupid) enough to do that?

But as the 42PFL7662D is suggested fairly often on HDTVTest's VIP poll, I decided to bite the bullet. It is the first 1920x1080 full HD LCD TV from Philips that accepts 1080p signals (the 9731 series was described as 1920x1080p but in reality the highest possible resolution was 1080i), but lacks some key Philips technologies such as Ambilight, Perfect Pixel HD, HD Natural Motion and 100Hz Clear LCD that are due to be implemented on higher end sets arriving later this year.
