SUMMARY
Put simply, no other flat screen television – plasma or LCD – I have seen in 2007 delivered as good a picture quality as Pioneer PDP-LX508D.

PROS
> Almost all elements of picture quality including blacks, contrast ratio,
colour, video processing, motion handling, etc.

CONS
> Plasma buzzing (may be specific to our sample)
> Price

Conclusion

I am not entirely sure if Pioneer has deliberately reserved its most advanced technologies for the PDP-LX508D, but even putting aside the extra resolution, this panel is really a few notches up from the PDP-508XD. Greyscale and gamma on the Pioneer PDP-LX508D in [Movie] mode were more accurate out of the box; scaling of lower resolution content was the best I have seen on any flat panel television; and there's less on-screen PWM noise.

Although its plasma buzzing may pose a problem for those with acute hearing, and its premium pricing may be hard to swallow for some, as an overall package I have not seen any other flat screen television in 2007 that could outperform the Pioneer PDP-LX508D in terms of sheer picture quality.
