Sharp LC46XD1E Report

Introduction
When the Sharp Aquos XD1E series of 1080p LCD HDTV first hit the streets of UK in October 2006, the initial impressions were great: detailed high-definition picture with very respectable blacks at an unbeatable price point. It was not long though before the complaints started pouring in, mostly related to screen uniformity problems (a.k.a. 'banding').
Field reports suggested that the 37 and 42-inch versions were less affected... certainly when we reviewed the LC-42XD1E, the faint vertical bands visible on a mid-grey test pattern did not materialise into real-life viewing annoyance. We shall see if the Sharp LC46XD1E is any different...
Note: As the design, connections, manual, on-screen menu, EPG and remote control of the Sharp LC46XD1E are similar to those of its smaller siblings, please refer to the relevant sections in the Sharp LC-42XD1E review for more detail in these respects.
