Sony clinches the sound category with their adept implementation of BBE and SRS TruSurround XT audio technology. They make <30 watt speakers sound a little better than they should. The Pioneer's audio is decidedly average, for a TV that is.

I can imagine some users with canine like hearing ability (a joke :) ) being bothered by the plasma buzzing on some quiet scenes. The Sony had a hum instead and was certainly not as loud or annoying.
