Glossy black panels are all the rage these days but there is no denying the style, quality and excellence in design of the Pioneer plasma (wow... I sound like a dunhill advert). If you disagree, then just exclude this category from the final score calculations.

The Sony KDL40W2000 has more options and flexibility with its connections, with 2x HDMI and 1 VGA that are lacking on this Pioneer model. The upgraded Pioneer PDP427XD corrects this shortcoming, but with added cost. The Sony KDL40W2000 can accept up to 1080p input on HDMI at 50,60Hz but the Pioneer can only do up to 1080p 24 Hz. Strangely, this is an exciting prospect for Pioneer users waiting for 1080p24 players. With this magical frequency, you can expect a smoother, judder free performance for motion pictures. with 1080p24 input.
