Chinese TV brand TCL says it’s going to create more awareness of its Mini-LED and other futuristic display technologies at the 2021 Consumer Electronics Show. 

The company, which unveiled its Vidrian-branded Mini-LED tech at last year’s CES, said in a press release that it will use this year’s edition to showcase “next-generation Mini-LED technology” and some unspecified “Future Display” tech. 

TCL, which is one of the world’s fastest-growing consumer electronics brands and has set itself the mission of making advanced TV display technologies affordable for the average consumer, said it will have several big announcements at the virtual CES 2021 show next week.

TCL unveiled its premium Vidrian Mini-LED TVs at CES 2020 with more than 25,000 mini-LEDs grouped into 5,000 zones. The TVs also used an Active Matrix, which helps to create higher brightness and better contrast and screen uniformity. 

The company also showcased some Mini-LED concepts at CES 2020, including one TV that measured just 5mm thick. It did so by combining the Mini-LEDS with a quantum dot film, and it could be that this prototype tech could now be ready for consumer TVs. 

TCL will of course be aware that this year will see its Mini-LED TVs rivaled by similar models from other brands this year, with LG Electronics last week saying it intends to launch its own take on the technology, called QNED, at CES. Samsung Electronics is also said to be launching its first Mini-LED TVs this year.

TCL has also said that it plans to launch its first QD-OLED TVs later this year, which combine OLED display technology with quantum dots. Samsung Display, which has started mass producing QD-OLED panels, previously named TCL as a potential customer, along with Panasonic and Sony. So we could also see a first QD-OLED TV from TCL at CES. 

We also hope to hear more about if and when TCL plans to bring its 8-Series and 6-Series Mini-LED TVs to the U.K. So far those models are only available to buy in China and the U.S. 

TCL will also likely have a new range of more affordable LCD TVs on display at CES, as well as various other smart home products.
