Panasonic Launches Latest TV Advert For Viera 3D TVs

One of the earliest TV manufacturers to jump on the 3D TV bandwagon, Panasonic has never been one to skimp on marketing its extra-dimensional products using TV commercials. According to a press release issued by Panasonic, the latest advertisement for its Viera range of 3D TVs was to be aired on ITV1 at precisely 7:45pm yesterday during the commercial break interluding Coronation Street. The advertisement will form part of Panasonic’s “largest-ever” media campaign in the run-up to Christmas this year.

However, apparently the promised advert did not get aired during the prime-time slot judging from viewers’ comments, perhaps due to a last-minute change or some technical issues. In any case, Panasonic has uploaded the commercial video on Youtube for viewers wishing to see what the fuss is all about:

Featuring a specially composed, yet unreleased tune, the advertisement is supposed to deliver a 3D-esque viewing experience even to viewers watching it on a 2D television, as a result of the “advanced cinematic effects” Panasonic employed to create the advert. The commercial will also be broadcast in 3D within the next few weeks, but since the public would already need to own a 3D TV with compatible 3D glasses to see the 3D advert in the first place, it acts more as a showpiece than as a marketing tool intended to directly drive sales of Panasonic 3DTV sets.

At the IFA 2010 consumer electronics trade show in Berlin earlier this month, Panasonic added 42-inch and 46-inch screens to the company’s VT20 range of 3D TVs in the form of Panasonic TX-P42VT20 and TX-P46VT20, and also introduced a more affordable Panasonic TX-P42GT20 3D TV. All of Panasonic’s 3D televisions released to date are based on plasma technology which – from our experience when reviewing these 3D sets – suffers from less crosstalk compared to LED/ LCD-based 3D TVs.

  1. Re the ‘specially composed tune’, I find it extremely irritating, as a specialist music teacher, that the beginning of the song uses the words DO- RE- MI, when in fact the notes actually sung are LA-TI- DO.
I’m surprised that such an error would be made on such a high profile ad. Not much point in having the state of the art ‘advanced cinematic effects’, if such a basic component is so obviously wrong!

  2. It sounds to me that it begins with the words Don’t wake me

  3. It is indeed “Dont wake me” and the song was written prior to the ad release then adapted for the picture. The full length version is called “Dreaming Out Loud” by Sally J Johnson (me!)

Hope that clears things up a bit!

  4. I personally think the track is amazing and can clearly hear the words “don’t wake me”

  5. The music is fantastic and I love the ad! :D

  6. Surely on a basic SDTV ‘sans’ 3D you could hear those words music teacher…..?

    In future, ‘Don’t make a sound’…..

Keep up the good work CurlyJo!

  7. Comments like music teacher’s are the pure comedy gold that keeps me reading Internet comments sections.

  8. I don’t understand how the singer is singing in the advert but her lips aren’t moving. I mean, it’s really incredible that they managed to make it look like she isn’t singing with those 3D effects. But then my wife thought Iron Man 2 was a documentary until I told her I’d turned off the Discovery Channel half an hour ago. So is the girl CGI?

  9. I really get surprise more and more by the fact how many useless comments we are getting these days!!!

Ted Burgess – Didn’t u try to think that the women on that advert isn’t a singer! It could be a model.

    And dear specialist music teacher!!!
I think you need to check your hearing before you get completely deaf!!!

Love the ad, and the song!!!

  10. Thanks for keeping me right folks!

    Much appreciated : )

  11. Wow, the song is beautiful, does anybody know the name for it ?
