Out of all the LCD TVs shipped in the United States through the last three months of 2011, Samsung accounted for 23.6 percent of this total, which equates to almost a quarter of all shipments. The figure helped the Seoul-based consumer electronics giant increase its lead over California-based TV maker Vizio, and represented the biggest market share Samsung has ever posted for a single quarter.

IHS iSuppli’s senior analyst and head of TV Technology Tom Morrod said that the American LCD television market had seen a huge price war during the fourth quarter of 2011, and it is now clear that Samsung has emerged as the undisputed winner. He added that Samsung has managed to offer US consumers everything they want through a range of HDTV displays that are not only very competitively priced, but also boast a wide selection of features.

In terms of US LCD TV market share, Samsung has now extended its lead over Vizio – which previously stood at 6.2 percent in the third quarter of 2011 – to 8.2 percent in Q4’11. This is an impressive change in fortune compared to 2010 when Vizio enjoyed a 7.2 percent lead. For 2012, IHS iSuppli is predicting that Samsung may widen its market lead over Vizio even further, following the removal of tariffs that had been previously imposed on Korean firms selling televisions in the USA under the recent Free Trade agreement made between South Korea and the United States of America.
