Samsung has teamed up with ITV, adding the hugely popular ITV Player app to its burgeoning collection of TV catch-up content for its Smart TVs.

The move, which will see ITV become the first commercial broadcaster to offer its app in the Samsung Smart TV Apps Store, is in line with its stated goal of making the ITV player available across multiple different platforms. With the ITV Player app recently being updated, Samsung Smart TV viewers will now be able to access a substantially increased range of catch-up content and enjoy their favourite programmes much closer to the time they are first broadcast.
James Micklethwait, ITV’s Online Product Director, said that the decision to offer the ITV Player on Samsung’s Smart TV was made in order to make on-demand ITV content accessible to greater numbers of viewers.
“We’ve seen the coming of age for connected TVs in the last year, so the opportunity to partner with Samsung and launch the ITV Player on Smart TV is a very exciting one,” added Micklethwait.
The ITV Player app joins already established services such as Facebook, Twitter, Muzu.tv and YouTube on Samsung’s Smart TV platform. The app is sure to be a welcome addition, most especially for fans of hit ITV soaps like Coronation Street.
Robert King of Samsung UK added: “Finally, ITV viewers will be able to watch hours of high quality entertainment whenever they like, no longer having to be restricted to the TV guide.”
“Being able to bring the ITV Player to Samsung Smart TV underlines our reputation as leaders in the field, and shows our determination to continue updating our platform to bring the newest and best quality apps to our viewers.”
The ITV Player is now available to download directly from the Samsung Apps store, and is compatible with all Samsung 2012 Smart TVs, as well as Samsung’s 2011 internet-connected HDTV sets and Blu-ray players.

BBC Iplayer icon is on screen but when I click on it I get an error message saying I need to update firmware. When I try that, I get a message that all up to date. Not a problem as BBC iplayer is on freesat.

Message to Ancient Mariner. The Firmware update is different to the update that I suspect you have tried. I called Samsung yesterday and they told me my firmware was out of date and they’re going to send me the update on a USB memory stick. You can, if confident, download the Firmware from the Samsung website and save onto your own memory stick.
I have the same frustrations that everyone else seems to have although the BBC iPlayer does work well for me. Also keepinmg an eye out for the BBC Sport App that has supposedly launched.
I contacted Samsung, they said there are NO plans in the near future to install ITV player in the apps store
It’s very strange, a couple of days ago the BBC iPlayer app appeared in the new app area, even though it was preinstalled on the TV and BTW works fine. Should this have been the sport app I wonder.
Same Here, no sign of the itv player app anywhere on the smarthub. Would be good to have on the tv as only things I use is bbc iplayer & you tube/muzu music sometimes.
All of the other apps and games are rubbish but got to say the picture in HD is great,Samsungs the best by far.

Wasted an hour this morning on searching for ITV Player with no success. Have a Smart Samsung TV and went through the hub. Tried updating the software through the internet connection. Told me I was up to date. Same as others I bought the TV for catchup last July. Also have Samsung Freesat recorder and it tells me that Itv Player is not supported by my software on recorder.
Oh by the way Samsung sent me an email heralding the good news.
Will try to download firmware tomorrow. Samsung help desk in the past have been all over the place with their advice. Sometimes you speak to somebody who has never heard of ITV and I suspect is speaking to me from the Pacific somewhere and other times you get somebody honest who tells you it’s just not available. The glossy sticker on my recorder said “coming soon ITV Player” but that was a year ago.
I upgraded tv firmware 1/2 an hour ago still no ITV player or bbc sport app as nicely advertised in an email i received this morning!!
I purchased this TV in January and I’m not too impressed at the amount of “TAT” apps that are on it as opposed to ones we really want to use.

Why do SAMSUNG advertise ITV Player capability when they sell their ‘Smart’ Tv’s and then and send you an Email personally telling you it is available when it is certainly NOT !!?

Tried again today to get ITV app. No joy. Spoke to Samsung. First the ver polite lady had not heard of ITV Player. Then asked a colleague and said even though agreement made with ITV P, the app is still not available. She texted me a Firmware upgrade to my Apple desktop. This did not work on my U E6100. 3 d Smart TV. ( I’m on version 1016 to be upgraded to 1020 hopefully. Tomorrow will ring help again &ask to send the USB. When you download to a Mac, download goes ok bu the file is a windows exe file and when you try tc ‘Decompress’ it you cant on the Mac. Even though I then tried to Extract it on a Windows machine, it still didnt work on the TV. (see Samsungs Powerpoint presentation on how to upgr ade Fimware ) Cant understand why I can look at ITV Player. On an iPad or PC and Samsung with all their clout in the marketplace cant get to grips with it.
Last bit of the Saga. Spoke to Samsung help desk today. They confirmed (a) There are still unresolved issuesr with ITV Player. They intimated that despite coming to some sort of agreement with itv p, ITV don’t really want Samsung to have it!!! Make what you like of that folks. She said that its unlikely to be anytime soon. (b) On my Firmware upgrade she asked why would I want to upgrade anyway ifeverything appears ok with my TV. Some logic to this (aint broke dont fix it) but I explained I thought that it might be holding me back from ITV Player and other than that “Because it’s there!” Why produce an upgrade if you don’t want people to have it?
Anyway she was very polite and patient and explained it should work if I downloaded it from the Internet but NOT she said if it was to a Mac computer!! Yesterday I was assured by the help desk that it was just fine on a Mac. It is an .exe file and Mac cannot open it or unzip it. Had also downloaded it on a Windows machine and unzipped it but that didnt work either. Have lost interest at this stage and only sorry I didnt

I have a UE55D8000 and have the same issue of “Fireware needs upgrading”.
I ran software upgrade “by online” and it said no updates. However, when I went on the Smasung website, I found my version 001021 was out of date by 001024 (whats all that ??).
I downloaded the new version on a USB stick and upgraded.
Big smile and tried again. Still same firmware message!

Does anyone even know whats on these new firmware updates? Nothing ever seems to have changed, and I have updated my firmware about three times now. It would be helpful if Samsung wrote us a bit of a change-log.

My son has been playing around with the all new all singing £2000 samsung tv and the 13 july firmwer upgrade has made the ITV player work.
I’ve manage to load itv player, but after upgrading the firmware the TV still insists the firmware needs upgrading. ????

I got the new ITV player and BBC sport email too. After several emails to Samsung about it, they said I needed to download a Firmware up-grade (got there in the end was not helped by only half the, ‘how to do it’ instructions from the samsung help desk people)
Now done it BUT still no sign of ITV player or BBC sport app BUT the sound has gone much louder, used to watch on 5/6/7 now it’s way up at 16/17, ok not a problem can adjust of course. But what is gomg on !?
These things should be easy and straight forward especially for no tec folk like me.
Will email them again but it’s such a pain to do and when they reply, with half the story or you don’t understand , there is no way to just reply to that email, you have to start all over again !!

My son is a computer programer for an oil firm he told me that at a friends house he had the new eye cam pointer tv 2012 modle. It too would not work the Itv player but after what we all have done with firmwear update it worked. Do not know modle number and im sure its nothing go do with my sons line of work being a computer programer.
Here is my experience as off 23 July 2012! TV – UE46D8000
Found out that the online update doesn’t really work (latest version 1016)! and after a quick call to Samsung support need to use USB method. So downloaded latest s/w 1024.1 and extract to a memory stick. Updated and then tried still saying that a firmware update is required! (also IP TV channels 112 onwards still don’t work). Noticed the BBC Sport App downloaded and this worked immediately. Hope this helps, I have bookmarked the Samsunf firmware page and will check it again in a few days.
Please make itvplayer available as promised and make it easy to access – there must be thousands of people out there waiting to use it. Samsung’s reputation is being tarnished
Looks like I have the same issue as other people. I have a UE46D8000 and even after successfully updating the firmware (youtube video was very helpful) to 1024 the ITV player app still says it needs a firmware update. Rubbish !
Apple’s new TV will kick Samsung into touch when it finally arrives. Best of both worlds – Samsung panel (probably) and Apple software.

It seems samsung is letting its customers down,when i tried to ring about the firmware upgrade for the itv iplayer for my d8000 on there web site, i was told no one else has that problem, samsung start reading some of these problems as it is not only me having the problem with your firmware upgrade, love the tv hate your customer service.

The Samsung website now has s/w 1025.1 available – downloaded, installed and now ITV Player is working. Not in the same league as the BBC iPlayer ie no hd etc but better than nothing. Now wher is the channel 4 and channel 5 equivalents.
Wow does this mean Samsung actually do care? I’ve updated to 1025.1 and ITV Player is working nice and smooth on my UE46D8000.

The info given on most websites was that ITV player would be available on all 2012 samsung blue ray players( mine is the BD E6100). I have been informed by samsung that the blue ray player that I have does not support ITV player.
The so called experts should check their facts before putting it on their websites.

Make sure you drag the file on to your USB then double click on it to extract the file first before putting it on your TV. Go to Menu, Support, then select software upgrade ( note when i have sometimes gone on to this page the software upgrade seems not an available option) not sure why this is. I just come out of it a few times and try again and all of a sudden the option is open.
once in there select the usb option and follow on screen.
I say all this and i’ve upgraded my UE46 D7000 to vers. 1025.1 and itv player still doesnt work. I have sent an email to samsung via “My samsung” if i get a reply i’ll post it.
Just switched the Tv off totally and back on. Went on to Iplayer and then it said updating. It now works. Martyn, hope you get yours sorted

Just downloaded it onto the TV, but it won’t run… It says it needs a firmware update. When I link to the Samsung site via the Emanual, it says there are no updates available… Foiled again! I’m really teed off at this – what is Smart about a TV that won’t run what my PC, my iPhone, iPod and iPad will????

Updating using online link has never worked on my TV. It seem the only way to update to the latest firmware, is to use a USB memory stick. You need to go to the Samsung website and go to support and select the model of TV you have. Click on downloads then click firmware, click in the icon below where it says 132.04 MB. Download the file to your deskstop or downloads folder on your computer, then install it to the USB stick. Once that’s done plug it into your TV and select software update, then by USB. It should run automatically from from there.
i was able to upgrade my samsung smart hub no problem via web update but as for the itv app it hasnt apeared on my hub yet so please samsung get some apps for the british nstead of aol and shit like that

WHY does SAMSUNG and ITV announce a product that is not available? And will most probably need a firmware upgrade for most TVs?
Doing this will obviously annoy existing users and deter others from purchasing products from companies who do not deliver. It would be better not to make any announcement until EVERYTHING is ready to go.
Ive just updated my Samsung 55″ D8000 brought last Dec to firmware 1025.1 and ITV player is now all working fine. Weird how you can’t do it online and I had to use the USB update, but hey pleased it works now!

I updated my 55d8000 with the usb update and it is still not working, on the samsung webb site the down load is 1025.1 but when it down loads on to your tv it shows as 1024. samsung please get your act together and get this app and update working its been long enough now , have i wasted enough time on these so called updates,what happend to your customer service. or dose that not matter as long as you keep selling a product that will not do as you say it will

Bought 51″d8000 3 weeks ago, still can’t get itv player to download new firmware which it tells me is necessary. Unfortunately we are an Apple household and apparently can’t download to USB as this is only for Microsoft. So when are we going to get the automatic software upgrades through the tv?
Also, they include a Scart adapter in the box which doesn’t fit the rgb socket on the tv, they have replaced with the same unusable adapter, now waiting for number 3 but am not holding my breath. Difficult enough talking to non English help desk, very hard to understand or ke them understand the problems encountered.

Managed to get ITV Player working on my 55″ D8000 today.
I downloaded the latest 1025.1 software from the Samsung site, ITV Player still wouldn’t work after this update. I then tried updating the tv online (never worked before), the tv then said do I want to update to 1025 software??? so I did! It downloaded the update and applied it. ITV Player now works……Happy days!!
N.B. Never had any issues with BBC I Player
I have just updated my firmware from 1014 to 1016 on a 46″D8000 today. I already had the ITV player icon which wasn’t working but now is. BBC Iplayer works too!
The upgrade was done via the TV menu chosing the online option to upgrade. HTH

Based on what I read here I updated my firmware via USB (the built in update function said there were no updates) but I still can’t find the ITV player.
I bought the TV specifically with TV on demand in mind – I knew that the only app was BBC Iplayer but was hoping I could watch the rest through the browser – no such luck!
ITV player would be a great thing, if I can somehow work out how to install it!

What Apps you can get also depends on model and specification. Series 7 and 8 or above are higher spec, the lower ones may miss out on certain apps unfortunately.
if only apple made smart tvs. samsung could copy them and maybe the app would work then:)

As all above. We bought a series 6 Samsung Smart TV just before Christmas last year. I was very disappointed them that the only TV player was the BBC one so I am even more frustrated that the ITV player is out and we cannot get it. The internet is amazing clunky I had visions of surfing the internet on TV! Thank god for apple I can sit and watch everything on my ipad, unfortunatley not so good to watch with others. Otherwise we can huddle in the study and watch on the Imac leaving our huge TV in darkness.
I definitely think I was sold a pup by John Lewis by buying this TV thinking it would do everything. Cant upgrade TV every year just because Samsung cant keep up.
ITV Player definitely NOT available on SmartHub despite the grossly lying advertising Samsung are putting out. My SmartHub Samsung 40 inch TV is less than a year old but Samsung say they have no intention of putting out ITV player. Samsung stated this to me yesterday Sept 16 2012. Always do plenty of research and read as many reviews before buying a so called smart TV. It’s not just Samsung, they are all guilty of messing their customers about regarding TV streaming apps. I think all smart TV’s should support the same tv steaming services and stop all this confusion about what apps you get on whatever smart tv you decide to buy.
You could always buy a second hand Xbox 360 for about £50. There are a good few TV streaming services on there, but not ITV player yet.
Also if you are and Apple user, you could buy an Apple TV box. It doesn’t have any TV streaming apps yet I don’t think, but it will allow you to stream whatever is on your Ipad, directly onto your TV.

I would never buy a TV because of what apps it claims to have. I spend my hard earned £1400 because I want the best picture I can get for the money. If it’s got good apps, then that’s a bonus.
Just had an email from Samsung saying ITViplayer available to all Sarmrt tv’s so you can watch Downton Abbey (plus all the other ITV channels, but it is not in the app box on my UE40D6530WK . Only got in in Feb!

I bought my Samsung TV in March 2012, the player icon is there but it doesn’t work! It says new firmware is required and to go to software update. I’ve done the update but apparently I have the latest version so why won’t it work? I would appreciate anyones advice. Samsung haven’t replied to my complaint and iITV support haven’t been able to help either. Come on Samsung, practise what you preach!!
I have an UE46D6500 internet 3D model. Downloaded ITVPlayer app today 27/09/12. It does not work. It switched the TV off when invoked and switched ot on again but only to standard TV and no ITV player. That’s all it has done. There is no facility to de-install it and re-install either. Please help. Thanks.
I have the same problem as you Sennen with UE40D6100 3dsmart, But have uninstalled & reinstalled, nothing changed! (yellow button-c, to enter Edit Mode, select item, navigate the bottom menu to delete) will have to try the Bludisc player next and see if that works

Over the past few weeks have been told by Samsung customer help/care. ”Sorry it’s only going on the 7000/8000 series (big £’s) TV’s Another said, might be on by end of the year it’s down to ITV. Yet another said, ”it’s there already”. And even uses this Firmware download that will fix it….It did not and seems was for something else (hope it’s not messed up my Telly!)
Basically, they don’t know what is going on 9or don’t care?) at the ‘help desk.
Such a great pity because the TV ‘s good and at the moment i would say they have the best Smart range.

I have the same problem as Sennen & Rob dated 27 September 2012. Downloaded ITV Player App last Sunday. Was so pleased, but what happens is exactly the same as Sennens. Tried to update tv (UE46D6100) but is says no software to upgrade. I have version 1010, seen on this forum it is now 1025. Cannot make out what is happening.
For most people, upgrading the firmware by USB drive is the only way that works. But it’s not foolproof unfortunately, you need a little computer knowledge to understand what you are doing.
Now ITV player is available for this Smart TV (UE40D6530WK) anyone know if there is a wireless keyboard (cabled USB would be ok too) so that emailing /surfing can be carried out better than using the on screen pad and the remote.
Samsung say their VG-KBD10000 unit is only suitable for more recent models 7/8000 (mine is just 7 months old for heavens sake !)
There must be someone out there (China) who makes something that would work?

Mal, if you have a Samsung smartphone, there is an official Samsung app called (Samsung Smart View). The app will let you use your touchscreen to control your TV and enter text in the TVs browser. it’s not compatible with all the latest smartphones though. But there is another app called (SammyGo Remote) by Tom Quist that works quite well on almost any Android smartphones.
I need to update TV firmware for ITVplayer. I’ve some USB hard disk PVR recordings I don’t want to lose, so has anyone successfully upgraded from 1018 f/w to 1021.1 (if thats the correct version?!) and kept PVR recordings across the upgrade?
@Mal: for my D6530 I use a RMC-QTD1 keyboard / remote control It works well with the apps that recognise it. The web browser is fine, but vimeo, iplayer and youtube for example still use screen pads. The Korean/English version can be half price – you do get used to it. I got mine for £45 in Feb. The mouse control is really nifty.
I have just bought a Samsung UE22ES5410W 22″ smart TV but it seems to be let down by buggy software. A few times after BBC iplayer has worked the next time it does not load and I just get a blank screen minus the loading logo. I have tried going into the apps folder and clicking on it there and although the logo comes up, it still does not load. At the same time ITV player works just fine so it is not my internet connection. It is very disappointing when good products are let down by software problems. I have had all the latest updates.
Bought es8000 46 inch and very happy with it apart from ITV Iplayer doesn’t work.Everything else is working but this.Samsung says download speed too slow ,which is not, because contacted ITV iplayer support team and they told me that my speed is fine and they told me the TV. needs new software update which apparently is 1025.1 but all samsung has is 1020.2. It is a second Tv as the first one was exchanged and on both the same problem. After I try to launch an ITV Iplayer after about 15 seconds it display a message THERE WAS A PROBLEM LAUNCHING THE ITV PLAYER APPLICATION.PLEASE PRESS EXIT AND TRY AGAIN .SAMITV-102 Any ideas on that one please????????

Hmm. I too was excited to see the ITV player app in the app store, but although it seems to load okay, it just reboots the TV when you try to play it. This is on a 32D6530. This TV, good as it is for watching TV, is about as Smart as my backside. They still haven’t fixed the BBC iPlayer problem that means the volume is far too quiet on level 2, yet far too loud on 3 or above. How did that get past the testers?
@Androo….I have the same model of TV and experienced the exact same problem as you. I updated the firmware via USB (version 1021.1 I think), and since doing that the problem has now changed! ITV Player loads up, asks for your postcode, then shuts down before you can do it. “There was a problem launching the ITV Player app…shutdown and try again later”
Oh yeah, the BBC iPlayer volume problem….anyone at Samsung actually working on that? Or any of these problems?
I agree it isnt and come to think of it there is no demand 5 either unlike rivals sony . think I bought the wrong tv .
There is no single tv manufacturer out there that covers all tv streaming services. Even dedicated tv streaming boxes don’t come up to peoples needs.
If you don’t want to miss your favourite tv programmes again, then I would recommend you buy a Humax HDR-FOX T2 PVR. Click the link to check it out. I would suggest the 1TB version.
After reading all these comments I can totally sympathise with them. My new Smart HD 3D Samsung 40″ has lots of app but none of the videos will play. Can download but then they just keep stopping and starting. Tried lots of things but no joy. I am probably a computer illiterate compared to many others but I can’t help thinking we are all mad for accepting the faults when the product clearly leads you to believe these apps etc are all readily available.Surely this is false advertising and the goods are not fit for purpose?
I didn’t realise this problem was as common on these TV’s. I have a Samsung Smart UE32D6530 bought 11months ago. 2 days ago visited the Samsung Apps page which updated itself and then tried to install itv player seemed ok till tried to run – System crash and reboot into normal TV. Tried several times with varying amounts of time in between (since it always seems a bit slow catching up with Utube etc.) Curry’s tell me its an ongoing problem with Samsung and ITV All else seems ok got same prob with sound levels on bbc iplayer. PS I know its sad but got mainly for the 3D “strictly” but a little disappointed in that as well, never mind I’m spending too much time watching the box anyway!

I have the D8000. ITV Player worked for a while… Now it has suddenly stopped working. I launch the ITV Player app, it loads, shows what’s available, I select something to watch and then all I get is a blank screen :-( Anyone else had this problem? Started about two weeks ago. I purchased the Samsung “smarttv” especially so that my wife can watch Corrie on Iplayer. Starts to launch, then all goes blank – not a very encouraging start to what had been promised, failing at the first step. I honestly do not believe it is our fault, BBC iplayer works perfectly
Surely no one in their right mind would buy a TV on the strength of it’s tv streaming apps? How did you manage before these streaming apps? You probably recorded it on a Video recorder. Buy a PVR and simply set it to series record anything you don’t want to miss, it’s the best way in my opinion.
My TV is made by Samsung and cost at launch over £2000, I bought it for it’s picture quality and size, NOT it’s apps. All the tv streaming apps work perfectly, but I prefer to record the on a PVR instead. If you are not happy with your tv, just take it back to the shop and get something else.
Hi Steve, Same here bought my 6300 smart tv 3 weeks ago Both itv and bbc player worked fine, yesterday and today neither work the app comes on after a minute then just the swirly bit keeps going around and around ? nothing.
have a samsung smart tv and picture is great and BBCi player is superb and so is ITV player but quality not a patch on the BBC – When is ITV player going HD or even SD!! Netflix and Love film and loads of others all superb

I think you are being a little unfair. I too, purchased a relatively expensive Samsung tv for its picture quality, not for the apps. However, Samsung push the smarthub feature to promote sales when in fact the tvs are not as smart as they say! If one of the “recommended” apps includes Itv player, then buyers have every right to expect it to work! I happen to have a modern laptop which I can link to the tv via an external DAC with usb input. Not everyone has these facilities. Also, although I have a 1 tb sky box and 1tb bluray recorder with twin tuners, I often watch BBC iplayer when a one off programme has been missed.

Same old, same old. I’ve recently tried ITV Player on my UE32D6530. Picture kept freezing and/or breaking up. Thought it might be my WiFi signal so installed a range extender. No joy. It’s ITV’s loss – I just don’t watch the content – but then ITV player was only ever going to be a “nice to have”

Hi, itv player problem on samsumg d7000. My home Internet works great, bbci player, YouTube, ect ect work fine on TV but itv player shows samitv-102 fault !! When I connect to my iPhone ( by using it as a personal hotspot on 3G) it works fine, it must be something in my home router blocking itv player, has anyone out there any ideas please.

The advers, of which there are MANY and are LOOOONG work great, no buffering AND you are not allowed to fast forward.
Then try watching the program and it is CRAP. Buffers all the time so that it becomes FRUSTRATING and you switch off.
ITV you could teach Mr. O’Leary a lot in customer care.

The adverts are played in lower quality than the actual progam you want to watch. So if the adverts play ok but the progam buffers, it probably means the bandwidth of you internet connection isn’t fast enough. Try the speed test using the link above. You need to be getting a minimum of 4MB per second download speed, but ideally over 10MB per second.
I have recently bought a new Samsung with itv player, however i can’t use it every time it loads it asks for a postode and comes up with an error SAMITV-102 .
Thankfully no error message after inserting postcode, which the latest version of ITV player has asked me for more than once. After each set of ads, the programme stopped and would not resume. Had to return, select programme and resume each time. A painful process. Won’t be using unless bugs are sorted. No problems with BBC Iplayer.
STOP PRESS! ITV Player now works on a 2011-2012 UE40D6530 tv. Samsung released an updated app on 17-01-2013 (v12.256) which has a colourful new icon. The TV is running with firmare is v1021.1.
After limited testing, ITVs 1,2,3&4 plus CITV play. You need to enter the first half of your postcode before ITV 1 will play – as they explain in the help pages.
The technical quality falls short of iPlayer but reasonably bearable – though probably not for fast-action.

On a different topic; does anyone else find that BBC sports player no longer works? It loads up the menu of clips but when one is selected the loading spiral just goes round and round before timing out after 15-20 secs?
It does NOT work on my Samsung 3D. I have to use my laptop.
Demand 5 is available in Samsung apps on D8000 Series TVs. Others models you will have to check to see. The sound quality is rather compressed though, but it’s better than nothing I suppose :)

ITV Player on UE40D6530
I got ITV Player working fine a couple of months ago on my 6000 series set.
I found two things necessary:
1) latest firmware, which I could only update by downloading on a PC to root folder of a USB key and upgrading from that (online upgrading just said I had the latest).
2) enter a London postcode. I live in the Highlands and if I put in my postcode I got the symptom others reported of the TV rebooting if I tried using ITV player.
I see a press release today saying Demand 5 is now available, and apparently it has been for a while on the latest sets, but I don’t see it yet in the Samsung apps on my D6530.
Both ITV Player and Demand 5 player even on a PC seem to be dogs compared to BBC iPlayer, especially the enforced watching of ads, which makes watching non-authorized uploads of shows a lot more attractive, even in the lower quality of YouTube sometimes!
CORRECTION
Sorry I should have said it was the non upgraded Smart TV system software that caused the rebooting. The firmware that works is 1021.
The problem with the postcode was that if I put in my genuine postcode I could not get ITV1 (all the others ITV2, 3 etc were okay).
Today I updated to latest ITV player v 12.25.3, but the problem remains. If I put in my actual postcode it correctly says region detected as Grampian, but promptly removes ITV from the scrolling menu of channels. If I change it back to a London postcode the ITV channel reappears!

Update T-GAP8DEUC-1027.1 for (46″ D8000 Series 8 SMART 3D Full HD LED TV) became available yesterday if anyone wants the latest update. I’m just about to install now, and will report back if anything exciting happens. Chances are there will be no noticeable changes, but it’s always best to keep up to date :)
I have ITV player app and the wierd thing is … It’s only Corrie and Emmerdale that I can’t watch on it? .. It’s very slow and stutters.. But I have tried different program’s and they work perfectly? I’ve tried it on different episodes thinking it was just that one episode that had a bug?? Any ideas?

Marian, this sounds very odd. Do Youtube or any other apps that stream video work? If not I would go into your tv settings click on (Network) and check network status.
I have the samsung smart tv model UE40D5500 I m trying to get the itv iplayer app but can’t find it, I’ve been told that It would be available early 2013 and also would need to down load the latest firmware but not sure what’s the latest version is. John, you should be able to update via your TVs support menu and the latest update is (1021.1) but will probably just show as (1021)
I Installed the new T-GAP8DEUC-1027.1 firmware a week ago and I have noticed a few things. The PVR recording timers seem to be working much better than with the previous release (not a single missed recording timer until now), but I had three random TV reboots while watching a channel. The just switched off and then back on. Seemed to be a “fast reboot”, just 5 secs between watching-off and then back to channel I was watching, without the set ever entering the deep standby mode. My set is the UE46D8000.
UE46D5520 RKXXU, was running Firmware 001019 upgraded to 001023, still cannot get on demand 5 to run, says I need a firmware upgrade,
Come on Samsung, get the situation sorted, I couldnt even update firmware through Channel, couldnt update through wired internet, eventually downloaded it onto a computer and saved onto a USB stick, upgraded TV and still Demand 5 wont run.
Not impressed at all.
also Free downloads, -yes, but it costs you to watch anything that the programme connects to. Whats FREE about that?? Missleading or what and not a mention THIS SERVICE IS NOT FREE
I have just spotted 4od is now available to download in Samsung apps If you own a 46D8000 TV or better. Not sure about other models. it works very smooth too.

I too am frustrated at being able to see the Demand 5 app, but when trying to run it I get the ‘new firmware needed’ message.
What is even more disappointing from Samsung, is that the Firmware upgrade doesn’t appear to be available Via Wireless Internet (Smart) or Channel. In fact the TV looks like it’s on the latest version of Firmware.
Its only when you use a computer to access the Samsung website that you find there is indeed a newer version of Firmware:
T-MST5DEUC-1023.0
I downloaded this to a USB and ran the upgrade, and the TV is now on the very latest Firmware version.
Guess what? Demand 5 still doesn’t run, and still says the TV needs the latest version of Firmware.
This could have, and should be, very simple. Don’t treat your customers like this Samsung.

I have had my Samsung tv model UV40D6530WK for 18 months. I get iplayer but no play button on screen. itvplayer is there but I can not access it says try later My Samsung Smart hub is not very smart. I would not buy Samsung again.
Ongoing problems with samsung bought late 2011. BBC iplayer always worked. I then had icon for ITV player but trying to access it just turns TV off and back to main screen. Then 4od and Five on demand appeared. 4od works (hurray). 5 gives info that firmware needs updating. My TV is permanently connected to our hard wired house system and often tells me its updating so it should always be up to date. Have checked version and says current.

Heather, I think the updates you are often seeing, sound like they may be just small (app updates) if you tell me your tv model number and the software version, I will check for you.

I have a samsung ue32d6100 smart and was prompted to install demand 5, ITV player and 4OD. ITV player freezes the TV and restarts and demand 5 says i need to upgrade my firmware online through the TV but the firmware updater says there are no new firmwares. WTH, Why make us install apps that we cant use? Almost forgot that 4OD works fine.
At Last Samsung has got it’s act together.My UE46D6530 has ITV player and it works. After an automatic software update which installed the software, it went through the motions but still it would not run. I downloaded the latest Firmware from the Samsung site, 1024.0 exe, unzipped it in my USB stick (It was fussy about which stick I used) plugged it in and Hey Presto it self installed OK and it worked. Just had to reset all the picture settings.
I suppose I will need to upgrade my broadband now.

why is there no peppa pig on the samsung app but its on the five on demand website! We had the same issue with other on demand services such as iPlayer which had programs available using a browser which weren’t available using app or even Virgin iPlayer. Content should be the same what ever the platform!!
