Sony KDL40X3500 Received

Sony KDL40X3500 Box

After a long wait, today I have finally received the Sony KDL40X3500 Bravia LCD TV that I ordered on 12 October 2007. I’m going to set it up later tonight, then calibrate and test it over the weekend, so hopefully the review will be ready sometime next week.

And it’s already shaping up to be a busy week ahead… I’m still running in the Panasonic TH42PZ70 plasma that arrived on Wednesday to let the phosphors settle before commencing calibration. I have written the first 2 pages of the Panasonic TH42PZ70B review however if you fancy a read.

  1. Awesome, Thanks.

    Thanks again!

  2. Many thanks for taking the time to do these reviews.

You’ve almost sold me on a Sony 40W3000, but I
want to see how this compares against the 40X3500.

  3. great, looking foward to ur review. over f86 I’ moved to da w3000, now waiting if I should some francs more in a x3500.

    keep up da great work

  4. Just purchased the 52″x3100, the only difference to the x3500 is cosmetics.
what a great LCD it has pin-sharp HD images and the bonus on this one, finaly a LCD with a very good freeview digital tuner even on a 50″ screen the picture was great at 10ft.
sony No 1 in LCD and this would definatly give the pioneer a run for its money.

looking forward to your thoughts on the 40″X3500

  5. This is one review i will be looking forward to!.
I hope it’s a good one as i have aready purchased the 46″ version!. When i first set it up i noticed slight clouding, but have been able to practically eradicate this by setting the brightness level to ’54’, it seems that the brightness setting is the only setting able to do this, also the slight increase in brightness does not affect the picture quality (to my eyes anyway).
Looking forward to your excellent informative review as always.

  6. Looking forward to the 42PZ70 review, it’s a throw up between that and the Pioneer Kuro. I could stretch my budget to the Pioneer but at a pinch, it would be attractive to me if the reduction in picture quality between the Pioneer and the Panny wasn’t *huge* – that extra money could be put to good use (a nice Onkyo receiver for example).

Vincent I’d be interested in direct comparisons to the Kuro since it’s the obvious flavour of the moment (for good reason I suppose). But if the Panasonic received a favourable comparison I’d be tempted to settle for slightly less to have slightly more cash in my pocket – we’ll see.

It’s interesting that I’ve not been able to see a PZ70 series anywhere, mostly the PX and a PZ700 (which I wouldn’t consider, I’ve heard that despite the extra HDMI it can’t do 24fps).

Looking forward to reading the review – Vincent you’re a star, doing a great job!

    All the best,
    Chris

  7. Am also looking forward to your 42PZ70 review, though I am more incline to get the 50″ version. There is a specialist Panasonic shop locally where I’ve seen both the 42 & 50 PZ70 right next to the same PX70 & PX700 models being fed via a HDMI splitter the same SkyHD signal. In such a direct comparison I found to my suprise the lower res PX models actually look sharper. I have also seen the PZ70 models in a local Dixon & Comet but they are usually being fed a low quality coax SD signal, they don’t seem to do scaling / anti-aliasing very well as I can see horrible jaggies in diagonal lines during the demo. Hoping to hear what Vincent thinks of the SD performance from the PZ70 in comparison to Samsung F86, even with SkyHD there is still much more SD material relative to HD on air.

  8. Dear Vincent,

I saw your review of the KDL40-W3000 and waiting to see your review of the X3500.

However I’ve a question about something I’ve not been able to read anywhere, a is it really worth the price to buy a KDL46-X3500 instead of a LE46F86 from Samsung for Example which if 43% Cheaper ?

  9. We got 52×3500

    one word

    Immense

  10. Vincent,

Really looking forward to your review of the TH42PZ70. I am very keen to buy this screen and not to have to buy an interim screen instead (the 42” pioneer is not suitable for me as I use an HTPC).

The main question I hope your review will answer is does the TH42PZ70 play HD-DVD & Blurays adequately ? I have heard that it does’nt have full compatibility with 24fps but probably a very good implementation of 3:2 pulldown (from a 24fps signal).

  11. Just a few questions that I hope you’ll respond to in the X3500 review: Is the fan noise at all intrusive during normal viewing? Does Bravia Engine PRO really ‘upscale’ SD material to 1080P as it says in the blurb on other websites? What is the audio like? (You curiously made no reference to it on the W3000 test). What is the Photo HD TV technology all about – does this set have a USB port sunk into the side of it? How come this flagship model manages to use 20 Watts less power than the W3000? Why dont TVs leave the factory already calibrated? Please can you include your settings, and if you do, would they give exactly the same results on ALL X3500’s or do different TV’s displays and their internal component tolerances vary enough to render any setting info irrelavent.
    Vincent – the nation waits.

  12. Hi

realy looking forward to the upcoming results of the kdl40x3500.
Would realy like to know ur opinion if the x3500 is worth the extra money over the f86 and if the gap between w3000 is that big.

    great work

  13. Here’s another eager waiting customer for either the W3000 of the X3500.
I love your reviews and they have a big influence on my choice, so you better do your best ;-)

  14. I’ve seen the X3500 next to the new Philips LCD 100Hz 42” Cineos 42PFL9732D, the Samsung LCD 100Hz 40” LE40F86B, and Toshiba LCD 100Hz 42” Regza 42Z3030DG over the same source (Samsung HDDVD), and it was like watching crystal HD image on all the others, and Diamond clear super high definition on the X3500.
They could use the slogan: “X3500, reinventing High Definition”.

  15. In response to point 10, AndyF – I’ve “heard” that it’s the more expensive (ironically) 700 model of the Panasonic that can’t do 24fps but that the 70 should be able to, but you’ve got me worried now- I’m wondering if it actually can do, or will it make a stab at it and get it wrong – again review should tell.

Looked at Panasonic’s web site – not much help there.

Also, what’s the “B” model anyway, I always get suspicious with these model numbers, that “B” on the end could make all the difference.

…there’s a thread about this here, reading now

  16. Really looking forward to this review, my 40×3500 arrives next weekend, actually it will be the second set…the first went “walk about” while with City Link…only made it as far as the local depot and then went missing!!!

Please can you include your calibration settings, I appreciate that each set will be slightly different but they will be a good starting point for those of us without a spyder, and with the aid of a Video Esstentials DVD it should be possible to get a good enough result for every day use

Thanks for all your reviews, much appreciared.

  17. Am really looking forward to this review, have shortlisted this tv amoung the Pioneer Kuro and PZ70, am especially interested to hear what you think about the black levels on the X3500 compared to the Pioneer Kuro and the Panasonic PZ70 as this will be the deciding factor for me and I haven’t been able to compare them in person myself.

  18. Finally!

I’ve been waiting for this moment and hopefully your review will show that this is the TV I should buy.
Would be nice to know what you think about the fan noise since I’ve read on Swedish web forums that it can be a little bit annoying when volume = low.

Thanks for all the reviews and keep up the good work.
Your effort is very appreciated her in Sweden as well.

  19. I have a 40X3500 and never heard it had a fan. When I read your reply I muted the sound an put my ear very close to the cabinet, and yes, then I could hear a very faint fan noise. I can’t imagine how anyone could hear this under normal viewing because it really is extremely faint.

  20. yup yoop let us now cant, wait want 2 order this week !

  21. Thanx for the fan info Joop. What about the tele? Please tell all.

  22. Your just testing us now aren’t you. I’m desperate for this review!! Your reviews are some of the best i have ever come across and really answers the questions that I have honestly. Can’t ask for much more than that..

Any idea when your going to post the results? Then either go for the D3000 or the W3000. I’m leaning towards the D3000 from what you wrote. Which would you personally pick since you have seen them both?

    Thanks

  23. I’m especially waiting for this test to hopefully help me in choosing between the 52×3500 and pioneer kuro LX508D or lx5080D. I would really appreciate a list of the pr and cons of both screens compaired.

  24. i see you have a 40x , i seem to find the glass to overpowering on the 40” but on the bigger screens its suits the floating glass? how do you find the floating glass on the 40” ?? . thanks heaps

  25. and how does motion flow compare between d series and x series , ive seen both and the x seems alot more powerfull

  26. Sitting on the edge of my chair waiting for this review could swing it. Visa out and ready. I think the 46″ would be little to big for my room.

  27. what about a sneek preview vince :)

  28. You must be enjoying the TV…..looking forward to your verdict. I was in our local Sony Centre today and the sales guy thought that actually the W3000 was a better buy value for money wise. It will be interesting to see if you think it’s worth the extra…..

  29. Philips42PFl9632D review please!

  30. Hopeing you’ll have the review up by the weekend…but it’s a good sign that your takeing the time to do thorough test of the 40X3500 before publishing the results.

  31. Oh yeah, forgot to say, on mine:

No clouding/backlight bleed and I cannot hear the fan noise unless I go close up.

  32. * And turn off all other noise.

  33. X series is made in Japan. Also the picture “shakes” a lot more on the W-series with moving objects. The difference must be the impact of the 100HZ technologoy. I have done side by side testing using the same 1080i source and there is no doubt if you are spending that much you may as well spend a bit more to get a much better product.

  34. 2 Andrew: Sony has 2 LCD factories in EU now – the first, old in Barcelona, the second, new in Nitra, Slovakia.

“The Nitra factory will make a full use of its state-of-the-art equipment to focus mainly on large-size, high-end Bravia LCD TV sets.”

  35. JM
In Australia, the x-series is made in Japan, w-series in Malaysia…

  36. Hi Andrew,

The Australia model for the X Series is KDL40x3100. Do you know what is the difference between 3100 and 3500? thanks.

  37. When you review this model can you please give all the settings used for the calibration (esp. Power Save, Backlight, Gamma, Contrast, Brightness and Colour Temp)? Also please quote actual black and white luminance after calibration. Also note that auto-dimming can be disabled by switching on Game/Text Mode but at the cost of some video processing functions (Motion Enhancement, Noise Reduction, etc.)

  38. There seems to be some agreement to not post calibration settings even for guidance. One professional calibrator even forbid to post settings to internet.
Best resource for settings seems to http://www.avforums.com.(some of people are quite pro there :) )

BTW comments you post here, should be comments about the review.

  39. CT sorry I dont know the difference. Model numbers are often different to prevent shops importing parallel products and then selling them here. There will also be differences in the inbuilt tuners. I looked on the UK website – the X3500 and X3100 have the same bezel with the glass.

I did the X-series vs W-series comparison again last night. The store had a sony demo disc going, however I think these demo discs are designed to show any flaws which you may not pick up in ordinary viewing. How often does one watch something panning across a screen slowly? However I have seen the W-series with a regular TV show and I think the Samsung M-series has much better motion flow (which is consistent with Vincent’s review).

  40. What is the best? Sony 40X3500 or Philips 42 PFL 9632D?

  41. Hi My Sony KDL40W2000 was due to be replaced last week (Insurance write off).I almost went for a pioneer PDP4280XD but put off my decision as I saw your review on the Sony KDL 40X3500 was due.I have been using a budget 15″ standby tv for four weeks now (I know contain your envy)but you can have too much of a good thing. Could you please idicate when your review will be ready. Regards Mike

  42. Someone has posted great settings for the 46×3500 on AVforums.
Link here. I tried it and it’s fantastic for SD!!

    http://www.avforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=5766795&postcount=3000

  43. I’ve had my 40×3500 for just over a week now.

    Very disappointed altogether.

I can’t commnt as an AV buff, as I’m just an average TV watcher, who likes god quality pictures. I bought Sony ‘cos I’ve always had and rated Sony CRT tellies. I decided to splash out and go for the top of the range, but now wish I’d saved my money.

I don’t yet have any HD sources, but the picture in SD is deinitely mediocre. I had to play around with picture settings for ages before I could get anything decent.

The killer for me, however, is the fan noise. In quiet bits of TV and when using it for PC web browsing (and writing forum thread replies), the fan can clearly be heard as background humming from 10 feet away. Especially, if you are sat to one side of the screen.

I have phoned the store today to ask for a refund, as I believe the noise makes this set not fit for purpose.

Maybe if I’d been able to plug in a HD source from the beginning, I’d have been willing to put up with the fan noise, but I’m afraid that my opinion is tainted now and I definitely don’t think the set is worth the money.

  44. Graham, I’ve noticed other people complain about fan noise. I’ve not heard a peep of fan noise in a quiet room from my 46″.
Also, I was disappointed with the SD quality, but after following the advice on AVForums I have to say my 46″ looks better than any other LCD or plasma I’ve seen playing SD. I am well impressed after changing the settings for SkySD from the defaults.

  45. Graham, you shouldn’t expect wonders when viewing SD sources on any FULL HD display. After all, HD displays are designed to display HD video. You didn’t mention what SD sources you are using. As rule of thumb with most HD displays, it is best to use the output device to deinterlace and upscale the SD video before sending it to the HD display.

You say you don’t have any HD sources but what about HD free-to-air TV? It’s not the best image quality but you’ll get an idea of how HD will look on your top-of-the-range LCD, especially during prime-time movies. Obviously your HD display is not at its fullest potential until you feed it a 1080p signal.

As for the fan noise, it’s possible objects and acoustics around your 40X3500 are amplifying the fan noise, or the TV is not well ventilated, thus the TV is speeding up the fan speed but I’m only guessing on this one. Or it’s simply you received a unit which has a faulty fan.

  46. A question, and probably one that significantly influences many people’s decisions on which large flat panel (LCD or Plasma) is : which 1080p screen 40″ – 50″ range provides the best SD source viewing. OK, so the panels are all aimed at outperforming each other on HD material and major manufacturers all do a pretty good job, but I for one have a family still engrossed in mostly SD broadcast (sigh). So, my ideal comparison would be between the 40/46″ x series Sonys and the latest Pioneers 428xd or the LX1080 50″ ie the best LCD and plasmas around at the moment.

Not many stores have these two side by side right now, and I need to buy a new TV as my old sony 32″ CRT has lightening damage but still works but with some of the picture missing top and bottom (impressive), so I’d appreciate a good expert comparison please , if there is any as SD performance on reviews is generally rather skipped over.

  47. I think you should ask that question in the forums. This service is for commenting on the article.

  48. hi vince…

u got any clue when ur review is gonna be up…I know impatience is a sickness :)…

    greetz

  49. vincent-

there’s a couple of americans waiting patiently for this review… of course we’re wearing t-shirts with canadian flags on ’em so you might not recognize us in the crowd. i’m leaning towards the F86 over the x3500, but i’m wondering what you think of the two models head to head.

    looking forward to it!

  50. Today i saw this set and the 40W3000 side by side playing a BR demo disc, it wasn’t crowded so i had the chance to pick up the remotes and fiddle with the settings on both sets.
Black levels and colors looked similar but details looked more natural on the X3500 and motion handling was far better on the X3500 with motionflow set to low. Definitely the best LCD I’ve seen so far.

  51. To Andy A, if you are primarily interested in SD viewing, then I’d suggest you save some some money and go for something like the KDL40D3000. It’s fantastic for SD, and won’t break the bank. When HD is more widely supported, upgrade later on to a TV that puts even the X3000/X3500 range to shame.

  52. Andy A, The Pioneer 8th generation Kuros are as close to CRT for SD that you can get at the present time. Although I’m waiting for Vincent’s reviews on the Sony 40X3500 and the new Toshiba 42Z3030, I’ve more or less made up my mind that I’m buying a Pioneer 4280XD from TLC Broadcast (a sponsor of HDTVTest and superbly recommended on AV Forums. I will be watching SD 80% of the time and I’ve not seen anything that can come even close to the Pioneer for SD. Expensive, yes, but you get what you pay for! Good luck!

  53. Thanks for replies Nomino and David (although not the right forum I guess) I have been leaning towards the Pioneer 428XD but checked out the Sony 40×3500 and 46×3500 in my local sony shop.

Very impressed with x3500s and I agree in a side by side comparison they are an improvement on the W3000 in colour, motion performance and looks but sadly still not really making the grade on SD. The post with the SD settings from Colin may save the day for the Sonys, I will go into the shop and put the TV at these settings and see what happens. Can’t wait for the review … like everyone else.

  54. …what a HYPE before test

  55. I bought a 40×3500 a few weeks ago, and noticed the humming/buzzing sound immediately. I’ve contacted the Sony Center who sent a service engineer out to check. He replaced the TV but the noise was the same. They are now checking what can be done about the problem – but I have a feeling they may say it’s normal. I’m sorry to say this but I’m very dissapointed with Sony, I though they did quality products This sound can only be tolarated when watching football when there is a constant background noise to drown the fan noise (or whatr ever it is).

  56. Really interested in seeing this review. Like many here, torn between the Pioneer 5080XD and the Sony 46X3500, just need a gentle nudge in one of the two directions to make a descision. Hopefully the review will provide that little nudge!

  57. Hi really interesed in reading the review of x3500. When do you thinl that will be published on the website? I need to make a decision between x3500 and PZ70e.

  58. Fredrik, i have the sony 52×3100 i have had it for 2 weeks and it doesn’t have any humming/buzzing sounds, so tell sony that its not a problem with all there LCD and they should replace it.

  59. @ Barry, that’s because the 52″ model is passively cooled. Honestly, it would help if people actually knew what they were talking about before writing stuff like that… :o/

  60. Nomino, well thats why i dont here anything- so instead of putting people down how about getting a life asshole.

  61. Yeah…cant stand people like Domino, what a dipstick. Anyhow, I am getting bored of waiting for this review now, we all need enlightening as to wether the premium of an X-series Sony is worth the dosh. (and extra space)
Nothing really cuts the mustard except the W3000 as of now, as I am in the LCD camp for the time being.

  62. For those with noise issues it would help to know if the TV is wall mounted or free standing please?

  63. The new range of sony tv’s are gonna be out by the time we get this review! Hehe. Credit card in hand waiting on this. Come on to fook.

  64. I’ve had a KDL40XBR (the Canadian equivalent of the KDL40X3500) for two months. The SD picture is good, with an upconverted 1080i signal from a cable box, but the HD picture is stunning with a good HD signal or even better with a blu-ray disc. The crispness of the resolution, the colours and the contrast level are head and shoulders above anything else I’ve seen, and I’ve shopped around before buying it. I don’t expect to see another picture for a while which will make me want to trade up.

I’ve found settings at http://www.cnet.com. They’re pretty good.

As for the noise, it’s a small fan in the upper left corner of the set, used to cool the backlight. It as variable speed and it can indeed get noisy when it spins at maximum. I’ve had it replaced under warranty as the first one was really bothering. The new one is a bit better, but it’s a design fault obviously. It might be worthwile for Vincent to drill Sony about this to see what they have to say. it’s shame because it spoils what is otherwise a perfect screen. Not enough to make me want to change it though…

  65. John, yer some people just cant help them selves. i allready have a 52X3100 couldn’t wait for the review but still interested in what these guys have to say.
very impressed with mine its great that you can save different setting per input as i have different setting for watching normal free to air and i must say this sony is the best LCD ive seen for watching SD & HD free to air programs
upscalled DVD is very good and full HD is so impressive so sharp and detailed its almost hard to believe what your watching.
be interested to see what they post for their seetings although i would guess to say it will mainly be for full HD.
if anyone wants to know what my settings are for normal TV viewing they can just ask me and ill post or email.

    cheers.

  66. Yvan and Barry:

Thanks for both of your ‘micro-reviews’.
They’re very useful to me, as I’ll probably end up getting
    the Sony 40W or 40X.

Saw the 2 of them side by side in a Sony Dealer and the 40X
looked more impressive ( due to the bezel and speaker panels
running down each side of the TV).

I couldn’t really judge the picture quality in the shop, plus
the salesman was spouting statistics on how good all the Sony
    products are.

  67. Simply the best LCD I have ever seen, but the fan noise is extremely annoying and unacceptable. I can easily hear it 10-feet away while watching normal tv-channels. No problems for football or action movies though…

  68. Firstly – thanks to those who took time to reply to my original post a few days ago.
Secondly – apologies to those who think I shouldn’t be writing in this thread. I just had to put my views about my experience of the 40X3500.
Anyway, back to the main point. My set was (and I stress was, as I have sent the set back to the store) stand mounted. There were no other objects anywhere near it. The fan could be heard from 3m away.
I did manage to get a decent enough picture after playing further with the picture settings. However, I just couldn’t forgive Sony for the fan noise. I’ve been a Sony TV fan for 15 years or so now and currently have 4 Sony CRTs and one small Sony LCD. I must stress that the fan was not massively noisy, but enough to spoil any silent/quiet spells in any viewing session.
So I’m now waiting for the store to refund my credit card. They picked the set up from me last night. I’m having to put up temporarily with a budget philips 32″ LCD set, which, although the sound quality is absolutely crap, has a decent enough picture for SD viewing. One thing’s for sure, I’ll not be buying any replacement for the Sony without seeing one in the flesh and comparing properly in the shop. I’m also going to bring plasma back into the equation and compare with the LCD panels.

  69. One more question I forgot – Are there really any free-to-air HD tv sources in UK?

  70. Graham, I’d be interested to know what your backlight setting was on your 40X. I was in the local Sony Centre the other day looking at the excellent SD pictures on it, and the salesman informed me that there were 2 fans in the back which are used to cool some power supply units. I couldnt actually hear them in action when I put my head near to the side of the set (admittedly some ambient shop noise was present too), but interestingly they had the backlight set at its lowest setting. Do they know something we dont?

  71. Phil
Originally I did make the mistake of having the backlight really high, but that was the main contributor to me not being happy with the picture. However, having reduced the backlight down (can’t remember the exact setting), the fan noise was no different.
I also went into a Sony Centre before buying the X3500. They didn’t have an X3500 in stock, but when I mentioned that I’d read reports about the fan being noisy, the salesman scoffed and told me that all models have fans in them (which I now know is not true) and encouraged me to put my ear to the sets to listen. Well of course I couldn’t hear any fan noise a)because there probably wasn’t a fan in the models I listened to and b) because the ambient noise level in the shop would have drowned it out anyway. Anyway, that salesman convinced me that there was nothing to worry about. How wrong he/I was.

  72. I contacted Sony on Friday and they informed me that ‘yes’ they had received several calls from X3500 owners regarding issues with fan noise. He said it was related to the backlight and that their technicians were aware of it and looking into ways of resolving the matter. Heres hoping – I cant wait to get my hands on one.

  73. I have a SONY 46 X3500 . I have no problem with the noise.It seems that it is problem with 40.

  74. I have the 40X3500 and the fan noise is very apparent when there is not a lot of sound in a scene, i.e. no music just dialog. The fan noise is more of a whirring noise rather than a constant pitch which makes it stand out even more.

  75. Hi, I’m planing to use 46×3500 only as a pc monitor, so most important thing for me is: – can it do 1920*1080 over a D-sub? (vga input). Previus model x2000 had only 1360*768.

So, is it 1920*1080 1:1 pixel over VGA, anyone tryed it? Thank you :)

  76. ive got a 40×3500 but im not impressed when you get a close up facial which is shaded one side the image moves up and down and the hair moves it makes people look like their hair is alive any suggestions

  77. In regards to Phil in reply #73 I contacted Sony and this is what they said about the fan noise:-

It is with regret, that I can inform you that the fan noise is a characteristic of the television and that it can only be minimalised by turning down the back light option in the system menu.

  78. i have read peoples comments on the 40×3500 having a serious
fan noise, before i purchased my 40×3500,i went to my local sony centre to here for myself about this problem, and stood with my ear on the top of the tv, and could not hear a thing.i have now had my tv for two weeks and only when i mute the sound can i hear a faint noise,i certainly can’t hear it under normal watching conditions. my tv is stand mounted and i sit about 8ft away.

  79. Is anybody here who doesn’t have problem with fan noise? I know, how to enter into service menu and it could be helpfull for us who have the problem to know good configuration. Be so kind and contact me by e-mail, I’ll send you step-by-step manual, how to enter into the service menu (if you will go exactly by the manual it’s secure)and which information I need to solve problem. dm7025slk@yahoo.com

  80. So I have had the Sony 52×3500 for a month. Very happy but have motion smearing and not happy with that… have done my best to get answers and ended up speaking to Sony head office who said, tough, its the set and its to spec, not gonna do anything, so im sending mine back to buy a pio lx5080…

Sony customer service, while very curteous, lacks knowledge and will not admit to their product having issues. speaking to watchdog.

  81. I cannot believe that this TV got such a good review with all the smearing problems many users are facing with the X3500. I think Vincent need to give some explanation to the readers of this blog.

  82. I’d like to get your opinion of which tv should I get if I had to choose between these four models:
    1. Sony Bravia KDL-40V3000
    2. Sony Bravia KDL-40W3000
    3. Samsung LE40M86BD and
    4. Samsung LE40F86BE
i’d like you to consider that i’m a gaming, sports and movies freak so i’d like to know which HD TV should i get out of these four.
    THNX in advance

  85. Hi Paul

Have you tried using the settings at http://hdtvtest.co.uk/news/2007/11/12/sony-kdl40x3500-settings/ ?

    Warmest regards
    Vincent

  86. Tried everything, the set is faulty, but should i order another that is the question, thanks for the reply,Paul.

  87. In response to earlier questions the only plus is no fan noise, honest,Paul.

  88. I have a X3000 and noticed the fan noise. However it is not consistent. I turned the back light option down and thought that was what fixed the issue. But some days I have it on and I notice the humming. Others times I can’t hear much at all. I don’t know whether to call Sony and go through the hassle of a replacement if I end up with the same issue.
