Sony Playstation 3D TV Display To Get UK & Europe Release This Autumn

Sony has confirmed that its 24-inch Playstation-branded 3D TV/ monitor will be arriving in the UK and Europe this autumn. First unveiled at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2011 back in June, the tri-dimensional display is meant to provide an accessible entry point (read: a cheaper alternative to a full-fledged 3D-capable HDTV) for 3D gaming.

The Japanese consumer electronics giant made the announcement at its press conference at the Gamescom 2011 trade fair in Cologne, Germany this week. When it was launched at this year’s E3, the Sony Playstation 3D display was originally scheduled to go on sale in the USA come autumn; now it seems that British and European gamers are not going to miss out on the action.

Equipped with edge LED backlight and active-shutter 3D technologies, the Playstation 3D LCD monitor/ TV features the company’s proprietary “SimulView” functionality which allows two players to view two different full-screen pictures on the same screen, which is likely to contribute to a more exciting multiplayer gaming experience. To enjoy this feature both players will have to wear compatible 3D eyewear, but fret not, because Sony has thoughtfully included two pairs of 3D glasses with sets sold in the United Kingdom and Europe.

The launch price for the Sony Playstation 3D monitor in Europe is €499, while EuroGamer has clarified that the UK price will be £499 which, of course, is significantly higher than the US pricing of $499 (around £300). The 3DTV display is slated for a Q3 release according to the Japanese conglomerate.

  1. I was amazed to see this monitor at E3 with a release price of $499.99. I though; WOW! a reasonably priced 3d tv. But no. Shame on you Sony $499.99 is NOT the same as £499.99. For £599.99 you can get a 42″ full hd tv with 7 pairs of glasses, so how is Sony’s smaller version a value option? As soon as the price drops to £300 ish, it’s mine!
Now I play the waiting game…

  2. Jorge, where is this 599 TV u speak of?

  3. Bah, this is just silly.

£200 more for a BUDGET TV? Sony, do you remember when you tried to launch the PS3 over here in 2006 for close to £500 and it flopped until you lowered the price?

I can get a 42 inch PLASMA for less than that price, why would I pay more for a smaller and inferior screen?

Bring the price down to £300 and we will talk. As it costs that in the USA anyway, you have no excuse not to. This screen will never sell in the UK at that price, there is a recession on you know!

  4. BlueDragon, try Argos or Tesco. http://bit.ly/qHHzuC

  5. OMFG I can’t wait for PS 3D TV to be out

  6. I can’t wait for this, I wouldn’t get so excited about a 3D tv but the feature that shows two different images makes this something I really want to buy.

  7. NEW OPTOMA GT750 3D Projector (HDMI 1.4 Ready)
Available in the UK for approx £600-£700

Get a 100″ Screen from approx 5 FT distance with its special short throw lense.

  8. Well, so much for getting that for Christmas. or ever.

  9. sony 3d glasses-£45 X 2 =£90
    Game-£40
    £90 + £40 = £130
which means you have to pay £370 for the monitor itself!? that costs more than $499 when you convert it into british money with everything in the bundle. RIP-OFF

  10. I bought a 47″ LED 3D LG tv that cam with 7 glasses @ xmas. The pricing does seem high in comparison, but if you want the true multiplayer fun like the N64 brought us, you cant beat having ur pals in the same room & not having to split the screen, this PS monitor will fulfil that role.
I think that parents with younger children will buy this so it saves on buying 2 TVs for kids and they can sit in the same room to play it, rather than having 2 children in the same house in different rooms, using 2 TVs to play online with eachother, using headsets! Or buying 2 PS3’s even!

  11. Even though there are lots of different 1080p 3d televisions you can still tell which have better quality, i don’t know why but you can, i would imagine that this television would have quite high quality considering its price but it is the right size to be used for a lot of differnt things and has some nice features. RIP Scart cable
