Upcoming HDTV Reviews

survey

What you’re seeing above is a pie chart representing the breakdown of the HDTVs for which our VIP subscribers have voted in the most recent survey. Toshiba 42X3030D LCD TV topped the poll with 34.26% of votes, hardly surprising given that it’s Toshiba’s latest foray into the 1080p arena, although to be honest the one that gets every enthusiast’s mouth salivating is the Z series equipped with three HDMI 1.3 and M100 motion processing (expected in September).

Phoned around a few dealers, most promising stock next week. Comet claimed to have some due in tomorrow, but the earliest delivery date (should we choose the free delivery) would be Friday next week… even then the price is not the cheapest.

The Samsung R88 Series came second, garnering 24.07% of votes. Dixons ran out of stock of the LE32R88BD, so we had to source a Samsung LE32R87BD (same panel, different cosmetics) elsewhere for review purposes.

The Panasonic PZ700, as tempting as a full 1080p plasma is, will only be available in May (hopefully) so it’s put on the back burner. Otherwise we’ll get around to the Panasonic TX32LXD700, the Samsung Q97 and the Panasonic TH42PX700 if we have the time and resources, though I can’t see the Panasonic 700 variants being very different from their 70 siblings picture-quality-wise.

To have your say in our next poll, simply join our VIP Notification List… you’ll receive an email detailing the survey URL when it goes live.

P.S. I’ve managed to get my hands on a Sharp LC46XD1E too, so am going to do a “short” write-up mainly focusing on the differences (if any) between this and the smaller LC42XD1E. It’s truly a case of three buses coming along at once…

    Hi

I am sure you will notice quite a big difference between the two Sharp models. The 46 inch is the best Sharp is able to produce right know and will be able to compete with the best LCDs out there.

Sharp have had there share part of trouble though, especially with the 46 inch version. Rumor has it that the buzzing and banding problem are solved in the latest batch with 703 serial numbers. Sharp Sweden is acting very good regarding the problem and are swapping the units without questioning.

    Thanks for a great site!

  3. I signed up too late for this poll but in the next one i’ll be voting for the Panasonic PZ700.
The Toshiba 42X3030D review should be quite an interesteing one anyhow.

  4. I can’t find the page which had the link for donations to help off-set the cost of the reviews. I was going to send $30.
It was a paypal link wasn’t it? Because that’s the only way i could do it.

I would put the paypal button on the home page somewhere.

  5. I’m hoping the Sony S3000 and D3000 will be available next month and be in with a chance for review. I might be mistaken but i think these are the successors to the x2000 and/or w2000.

  6. How about the Hitachi t01 range? The p50t01 is already out and the p42t01 should be out soon. As a current owner of an ageing 42pd3000 (still gives a superb picture with anything in 480p) I’d happily move to a newer 42″ Hitachi.

  7. Philips 37PF9731D/10, the High-End LCD category EISA winner, and many have said it beats Sonys X-series in picture quality with awesome motion display and I liked it better my self (if you just shut down the DNM) – WHY not put it for a test -> pixelplus3 rules, also ambilight is great for videophiles like many of us!

  8. Please bump up the Q97 plasmas – nowhere else seems poised to review it, but it’s getting a LOT of rave comment over on the american AVSforum. Whereas the X3030 has already been reviewed at Cnet and will no doubt be reviewed shortly everywhere.

@EISAwinner’s comment, no point reviewing that Philips when it’s going to be discontinued in 2 months – PixelPlus 3 is out, replaced by Pixel-somethingorother HD.

IMHO there’s no point reviewing any LCD that lacks 100Hz technology any more. As you say, it’s the Toshiba Z3030 that looks interesting. So scratch that X3030 review and get busy on the Samsung Q97 plasma! :)

    Cheers, CHFels

  9. Philips 37PF9731D
you MUST test the most expensive panel in its category….dont you?
    Keep it up
    J

  10. Why not test a LG Plasma ??? 42PC5x series

nobody seems to do this .

    Renzo

  11. Sony KDL 40X2000

  12. Hi,
Can you give us a timeframe for the Samsung LE32R87BD review?
    Thanks (and great site, btw)

  13. I am looking into it… :) Whole review should be up this week.

  14. Now that we have the review of the R87 , 42Q97HD should be next. 37X3030 has already been tested like CHFels says.

I can’t see any need to test 37PF9731D and 40X2000 when there are already many reviews for those two (soon to be replaced) TVs.

  15. Please review samsung LE37M86BD

    thanks

  16. Doesn’t the review of the 40M86BD apply on the 37M86BD (same TV apart from the slightly smaller size)? I believe that it does.

  17. I would really like you to review one of the Samsung 100Hz LCD TV offerings. This would at least give us a good insight into where going for a 100Hz TV is a must or really a nice to have and worth the extra money.

thanks and keep up the good work

  18. The new Poll to vote for which TVs to be reviewed next is out again. Everyone should signup and vote.

  19. I really hope that Q96 will be your next review now that you alrady have the 42X3030 in da house.

Can’t buy one unless i hear what you guys have to say.Lol…

  20. Please, please a review Samsung PS42/50Q97HDX. You’re the best. Thank you.

Thanks for all the information, Fujitsu had a new Plasma out in February, P37FT05AEB along with it’s larger brothers.
    See
    http://www.fujitsu-general.com/global/news/2007/06-N09-30/index.html for some information.
Any chance of a review? Site score out of ten? That’ll be an eleven then!….regards Michael.

  22. Hi,sorry for my english.Im from Portugal and i would like to read a review about the Philips LCD32 PF9731D or the LCD37 PF9731D, both seems to have the same specifications.Im thinking about buying ,but my doubt is about the 1080p compliant .It seems to be a high end LCD wich won the 2006/2007 EISA Awards, with a responde time of 3 ms.

  23. Can you do a review about LG LF65?

  24. Panasonic’s TH-42PZ700E looks like one of the more interesting choices for a review.

Projected (and already quoted) prices seem to be close to the 2000 euro mark which is considerably lower than its competitor 42″ 1080p plasmas.

    Cheers for a great site!

    -Andy

  25. Please review Panasonic’s TH-42PZ700E, this is the most interesting Plasma TV.

    -Stig

  26. I would like you to review the new Z serie of toshiba lcd tv and specially the 42Z3030D one thanks

  27. For me the obvious one to review now would be the Sammy LE52F96. It will be interesting to compare this new tv with LED backlighting against it’s principal rivals which should be the Sharp 52XL2E and the Tosh 52Z3030 being around the same price level.

  28. Toshiba 42Z3030D

  29. Toshiba z3030

  30. What a great site, with all the marketing, hype, specs and price differences on the market this site is a gem!!! I am off to get either the LE37M86BD (40 if my living room will take it) or the KDL32D3000. Sony, Samsung and the like should be paying you tonnes to advertise here! Keep up the good work I have recommended your site to everyone considering a new TV!

  31. Toshiba Z3030 D please

  32. Toshiba 37z3030 versus the new 1080p sharp aquos x20e
