Just days after launching one of its most affordable 8K receivers so far, Denon has gone and announced two even cheaper models to cater for entry-level buyers who might be looking to get more out of their sound systems. 

The new Denon AVR-S760H and Denon AVR-S660H, despite being low priced, nevertheless offer advanced connectivity with a generous three HDMI 2.1 slots on both models, which makes them suitable for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X console owners. 

Denon said that on both models the HDMI slots are rated to 40Gbps and can handle either 4K@120Hz or 8K@60Hz video passthrough. They also boast 4:4:4 chrome sub-samplung, HDR passthrough for a variety of formats including Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10, and HLG. They also provide 8K upscaling on all inputs, which may help 8K TV owners overcome the lack of native resolution content. And of course, both models support next-gen gaming features such as Variable Refresh Rate, Quick Frame Transport and Auto Low Latency Mode for a slick and smooth gameplay experience. 

The main difference between the two models is in the number of channels they support. The AVR-S760H is the more expensive of the two, priced at £599, and for that you’ll get seven channels of amplication that’s rated at 80 watts per channel, with support for 3D surround sound formats like Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. The amp also supports DTS Virtual:X and Dolby Atmos Height Virtualization for users that lack a full 5.1.2 speaker setup with ceiling or height speakers. 

As for the AVR-S660H, this costs £499 and supports a 5.2 channel home cinema setup, this time with 75 watts of total amplification an support for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio decoding

Both recievers boast a number of Denon’s premium features besides what’s mention above. They’re compatible with Apple AirPlay 2, for instance, and they support a range of high-resolution audio formats such as WAV, FLAC, ALAC and DSD 2.8/5.6 MHz. They can also stream wireless music from services such as Spotify using Bluetooth or Denon’s own HEOS software. Voice controls are avilable through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. 

Theres also a Dialog Enhancer onboard that makes it easy to adjust dialogue levels when watching movies and TV shows, and the HDMI signal info feature displays information that confirms the HDMI signal and format type of whatever’s being watched. 

Other features include Audyssey MultEQ for automatic acoustic calibration and the AVR-S760H also gets support for the MultEQ Editor app on Android and iOS, allowing users to manually change those settings.
