Chinese laser projector brand JMGO has announced a new direct light processing projector model that can be deployed in almost any location with zero fuss or hassle. That’s because the JMGO N1S Ultra comes with a built-in gimbal that provides extreme flexibility in terms of where it can be set up. 

Not only that, but it’s a powerful little thing too, boasting a whopping 3,000 lumens of brightness, which is not far off the level delivered by some of the best high-end 4K projectors in the business from brands like BenQ, Epson and JVC. It’s also significantly brighter than similar portable models, such as Samsung Electronics’ The Freestyle 2nd Gen or LG Electronics’ CineBeam Q, which can only achieve a pitiful-by-comparison 230 lumens and 500 lumens, respectively. 

In addition, the JMGO N1S Ultra is said to provide top notch colour reproduction and wide compatibility, with a projection ratio of 1.2:1 and 4K resolution, in a slim frame that weighs just 4.5 kilograms, making it reasonably portable.

It’s said to support a contrast ratio of 1,600:1 and cover 110% of the BT.2020 colour gamut, while the triple-laser light source delivers a DeltaE deviation of less than one, which means that it should replicate those colours with greater accuracy than the many other projector models that have a higher deviation. 

In terms of sound output, the JMGO N1S Ultra offers both Dolby Audio and DTS surround sound delivered through its twin, on-board 10-watt speakers. While they won’t rival an external speaker setup, they should be sufficient for most living rooms. As for connectivity, there are twin HDMI 2.0 ports, one supporting eARC, and a USB slot. Wi-Fi 6 is also supported, and there is lots of accessible content through Google TV.

JMGO said the new model is set to launch in Germany in June, but hasn’t said anything about it going on sale in other countries. There is a listing on Amazon Australia, which quotes a price of AU$3,099 (around £1,621), but it is not yet available. 

The JMGO N1S Ultra is the successor to last year’s N1 Ultra model, which currently retails for £1,895, which is cheaper than the exchange rate translation of the listed price in Australia, so it’s anybody’s guess as to what the actual price will be if and when it does arrive in the U.K.
