JVC is taking on premium brands such as LG Electronics, Sony and Panasonic in Europe with the launch of what appears to be its first-ever 4K OLED TV. What’s more, it’s a fairly high-end model too, with HDMI 2.1 features that enable advanced gaming on next-generation games consoles.  

The JVC VO9100 series 4K OLED TVs look to be pretty slick models that promise to more than hold their own against the likes of LG’s B1 OLED TV and Sony’s A80J OLED TV, both of which are marketed as mid-range models. 

The TVs are said to deliver a fast refresh rate of 100Hz/120hz, although there’s no mention of the more premium “OLED Evo” display, suggesting the JVC VO9100 is likely equipped with a standard OLED panel. Still, the company nonetheless reminds us of OLED's key advantages – with traits such as near infinite contrast ratio, per-pixel brightness control and advanced de-contouring all helping to ensure striking colour vibrancy and realism. 

The TVs boast advanced motion handling too in the shape of Motion Estimation/Motion Compensation blur reduction tech. Meanwhile, the HDMI 2.1 slots at the back support fast-paced 4K resolution at 120 frame rates, enabling smooth game play on consoles such as the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Other gaming features supported include Auto Low Latency Mode, which is enabled via a dedicated Gaming Mode that switches off non-essential image processing. 

The feature list also mentions support for premium HDR with Dolby Vision, alongside HDR10 and HLG, and immersive surround sound capabilities enabled through Dolby Atmos. The TVs also support enhanced Audio Return Channel through HDMI when connecting to an external sound system. In addition, JVC promises a host of image processing features including 4K upscaling for regular HD content and Micro Dimming capabilities to optimise the dynamic contrast ratio. 

Voice controls are catered to with support for Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. 

The TVs are powered by the Linux-based JVC Smart TV system, which is said to contain a vast ecosystem of streaming apps including Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, Red Bull TV, Twitch and Amazon Music. The selection of apps may not be quite as comprehensive as Android TV or even something like Roku, but there should still be plenty of things for users to watch. 

JVC said users can choose to mount the JVC V09100 on the wall or on top of a furniture unit using the provided centre stand. 

JVC said its first entrant into the OLED market is going on sale in Europe now, with the exception of the U.K., the Nordic countries and France. There will be two size options – 55-inches and 65-inches, though prices haven’t been revealed so far.
