LG Electronics has made good on its promise to bring the Apple TV app to a selection of its 2019 smart TVs. The app is available in more than 80 countries, and gives users access to Apple’s new video streaming service Apple TV+, as well as a massive collection of movies available to buy and rent on iTunes. 

The company said the Apple TV app is available now on its B9, E9 and W9 OLED TVs and its SM9 and SM8 “NanoCell” LCD TVs. It will also come to its UM7 and UM6 series LCD TVs later in the year. 

“The Apple TV app gives LG TV owners the ability to subscribe to and watch Apple TV+, Apple’s new video subscription service that features popular Apple Originals such as 'The Morning Show', 'See', 'Servant' and 'Little America'," the company said in a statement. 

As well as Apple TV+, the app also enables access to the iTunes library containing more than 100,000 movies and TV shows. In addition, users will now be able to subscribe to Apple TV channels from partner streaming services such as HBO and Showtime. 

The Apple TV app on LG TVs supports streaming in 4K resolution and, uniquely, Dolby Vision HDR. While the app is also available on Samsung TVs and the Roku and Fire TV platforms, Dolby Vision isn’t supported. LG didn’t mention anything about Dolby Atmos, so it’s likely that isn’t supported at this time. 

“By bringing the Apple TV app and Apple TV+ to even more TV models, we are once again demonstrating our determination to meet consumers’ needs and add value to our products," said Park Hyoung-sei, president of LG Home Entertainment. 

LG said the Apple TV app will also come to its 2018 TVs later in the year, and be available on its 2020 TVs at launch.
