LG Electronics has admitted that there’s a bit of a difference between its 42-inch and 48-inch C2 OLED TVs and the larger sized models. No, we’re not talking about smaller pictures – that’s obvious – apparently, the smaller versions of the LG C2 won’t quite be able to hit the same heights in terms of brightness. 

The South Korean company has reportedly confirmed to Techradar that while the 42-inch and 48-inch versions of the LG C2 OLED TV will share common elements with the larger variants, including the latest Alpha 9 Gen 5 processor, there will be no major gains vs non-OLED Evo models in terms of brightness. LG apparently blames this on something called “pixel pitch”. 

As Techradar explained, the pixel pitch relates to the density of pixels vis-à-vis the TV’s resolution. So for the 42-inch and 48-inch models, the pixel pitch is so high that it somehow means they cannot benefit from the boost in brightness that the OLED Evo panels deliver on the larger models. 

So LG reckons consumers will see a difference in brightness of around 20% if they buy a larger model, versus a smaller one. The LG C2 OLED models that will benefit include the 55-inch, 65-inch, 77-inch and 83-inch versions. 

OLED Evo is a new, upgraded OLED display panel that first appeared on last year’s LG G1 OLED TVs, and is meant to provide superior brightness and other benefits, such as sharper images and better contrast. At CES 2022, LG said the OLED Evo panels would come to the entire LG C2 series models this year, in addition to the G2 series OLED TVs. However, the lack of a brightness boost on the smaller models will surely have some questioning whether or not it might be better to opt for a larger one instead. 

At least, consumers in the U.K. now know what they’ll have to pay to get their hands on one of those brighter LG C2 models. This week, LG finally confirmed its U.K. prices after previously doing so in the U.S, and in Europe. It said the 55-inch LG C2 model will cost £1,899, while 65-inch one will cost £2,699, the 77-inch £3,499, and the 83-inch £5,499.  

LG has yet to publish its prices for the 42-inch and 48-inch models. Nevertheless, HDTVTest recently got its hands on a 48-inch LG C2 OLED TV, and you can see it being unboxed in this video:
