The Force is strong with this one. LG Electronics has just taken the wraps off its latest OLED TV, introducing a limited edition, Star Wars-themed 65-inch display that’s based on the LG OLED Evo C2 model.

The Star Wars OLED TV is being released to coincide with the 45th anniversary of the original release of Star Wars: A New Hope, and it’s quite a special package, with Star Wars branding on both the TV and the remote control, and some exclusive art in the gallery display mode.

The TV itself is emblazoned with the Galatic Empire’s insignia engraved on the back, and it will somewhat chillingly play the sound of Darth Vadar breathing when it’s first switched on. Meanwhile the remote control is designed to look like a lightsaber, complete with a Star Wars logo and red accent lighting.

Perhaps the neatest touch is the Gallery Mode, which transforms the TV into a digital picture frame. There are two unique collections of original Star Wars storyboard art, images and photos to enjoy. First is the Conceptual Designs collection, which features storyboards around the first movie A New Hope and also the final duel from Return of the Jedi. As for the second collection, the Journey of Darth Vadar, this is all about the evil Dark Lord himself, a selection of iconic scenes from the series including his clash with Luke in Empire Strikes Back.

LG Electronics showcased one of Star Wars OLED TVs at the Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim, California - a convention celebrating the franchise - from May 26 to 29.

The company has yet to reveal a price tag or say when the Star Wars OLED TV might go on sale, but it is inviting fans to sign up for email notifications. Note that you’ll likely face intense competition if you want to buy one, because LG said there will only be 501 sold, and they will only be available in the United States.

If you’re wondering why just 501, that’s a reference to the 501st Legion, which is the battalion of Storm Troopers commanded by Darth Vadar in the movies.

While the Star Wars theme is the main talking point, it’s worth pointing out that the TV itself is one of the best that money can buy. As we saw in our review of the non-Star Wars themed OLED Evo C2, it’s capable of putting out some excellent images and sound. The TV is powered by LG’s newest Alpha 9 Gen 5 microchip, which helps to enhance colour clarity, shadows in dark scenes and the visual fidelity of buildings.

The Star Wars OLED, like the regular OLED Evo C2, is also perfect for video games with features like Nvidia G-Sync and GeForce Now support.

The regular OLED Evo C2 is priced at $2,299 in the U.S., so we can expect that LG will add a premium on top of that for the Star Wars OLED TV.
