Sharp has announced three new Mini-LED TVs alongside a new QLED range that will launch in the next few months. 

The new Sharp TVs are a promising evolution of the company’s existing LCD TV lineup. While the company doesn’t compete against the best premium TVs from the likes of Samsung, LG and Sony, its new Mini-LED TVs offer lots of advanced features at a very compelling price point. Meanwhile, the regular QLED TVs provide decent affordable options for those on a limited budget. 

First up is the three new Mini-LED TVs, but unfortunately we don’t have full details of these models yet. They remain unnamed, but Sharp said buyers will be able to choose from sizes ranging between 50-inches and 75-inches, with the bigger models offering a 100Hz refresh rate and expanded colour gamut plus HDR support in the shape of Dolby Vision IQ. 

Sharp said the flagship model of its new Mini-LED selection will deliver a peak brightness of 2,000 nits together with 2,000 local dimming zones, which is on a par with TCL’s new C955 quantum dot Mini-LED TV. It also boasts excellent audio, with an 85-watt 2.1.2 channel Harmon Kardon sound system on board that supports Dolby Atmos, DTS: and DTS Virtual:X. 

Many other specifications have not yet been revealed, but Sharp confirmed the biggest and brightest 75-inch Mini-LED TV will cost €4,999 (around £4,299) when it launches early next year. That price puts it in competition with 77-inch models such as Samsung’s S95C, LGs’ C3 OLED, Sony’s A80L and Panasonic’s MZ2000, so it’s either extremely ambitious or, perhaps, a sign that there could be plenty more to come from this particular model. 

As for the new QLED TVs, these will arrive in the fourth quarter of this year. Sharp says they use quantum dots to achieve “vibrant colour reproduction” and superior contrast. Once again, sizes will range from 50-inches to 75-inches. They will form the new Sharp FQ series of QLED TVs, come with Google TV and feature Smooth Motion technology plus support for Dolby Vision. These models will also sport Harman Karman speakers, with Dolby Atmos and Sharp’s Aquos Wireless Surround technology for those who want to add external speakers. 

Sharp said the FQ series TVs will be part of a new Sharp Q collection that is described as an “exclusive product line” that will exceed most customer’s expectations with its “elegant design and exceptional features” but affordable prices. The collection will also include soundbars, Sharp said, but no details on these were mentioned yet. 

According to Sharp, the FQ series QLED TVs will start at €599 for the 50 inch model, with the largest 75 inch model set to cost €1,199. 

In addition to those sets, Sharp also has plans for more mid-range and low-end TVs sporting the Roku TV and new TiVo OS operating systems, which will launch in a number of European countries next year.
