Sony’s A95K QD-OLED TV has taken home one of the biggest prizes on offer at this year’s EISA Home Theatre & Display Awards, scooping up the honours in the “Best Premium OLED TV” category. 

Landing the award, it bea off strong competition from Samsung Electronic’s own take on QD-OLED, the Samsung S95B OLED TV, which was ranked as runner-up. 

Sony was the first company in the world to announce a QD-OLED TV when it showed off the A95K at the Consumer Electronics Show back in January. QD-OLED is a new kind of display technology that’s said to take the best aspects of traditional OLED and marry them with the Quantum Dot technology popularised by Samsung. Combined, they provide deeper black levels with higher contrast, brightness and wider viewing angles, as well as superior colour accuracy and pixel illumination. 

HDTVTest’s extensive reviews of the Sony A95K and the Samsung S95B gave both TVs the thumbs up, with the former ranked as the TV to beat in 2022, despite the stunning picture accuracy of the latter.

The EISA Awards are a traditional precursor to the annual IFA consumer technology show in Berlin, with the winning products determined by a vote from an association of more than 60 tech magazines, websites and social media experts. 

Elsewhere, LG Electronics’ C2 OLED TV picked up the prize for the “Best Gaming TV”, while Philips scooped up no less than three titles. It’s 55OLED807 won the “Best Buy OLED TV” award, while the 65OLED937 was ranked as the best “Home Theatre TV” Meanwhile the 55PUS8807 was awarded the honours in the “Best Family TV” category. 

The biggest surprise was that Samsung didn’t manage to get a single award this year, with the S95B’s second place rank being its best achievement. It also lost out in the “Best Premium LCD TV” category to Hisense’s 65U8HQ, while the “Best Mini LED TV” honours went to the TCL 65C835. Panasonic also failed to land a single prize.

The BenQ X3000i won the award for “Best Gaming Projector”, with the “Best UST Projector” prize going to the XGimi Aura. Finally, the “Best Home Theatre Projector” award went to the Epson LS12000B.
