TCL Europe has joined the likes of LG Electronics, Samsung Electronics, Panasonic, Philips and Vizio in announcing official support for AMD FreeSync Premium, in addition to standard HDMI 2.1 variable refresh rate. 

AMD FreeSync Premium is the chipmaker’s official version of ARR, and TCL Europe said the first model to support it is the TCL C825 Mini-LED TV. 

The AMD FreeSync technology works by synchronising the display’s refresh rate with that of any FreeSync compatible graphics card. Doing this helps to reduce or completely eliminate any visual artificats that may interfere with gameplay, such as input latency, screen tearing and stuttering. 

TCL Chief Executive Shaoyong Zhang said the company set out to create the best gaming experience for its customers by identifying the most frustrating issues for gamers and finding solutions for them. “Through continuous innovation we created the ultimate immersive experience, and the TCL Mini-LED 4K TV C825 delivers incredibly smooth gameplay and has AMD FreeSync Premium certification,” he said. 

The official certification means gamers can easily identify that the TCL C825 is guaranteed to deliver fluid, artifact-free gaming. To enjoy the benefits of such smoother gameplay, users will need to pair the TCL C825 with a compatible PC or games console, such as the Xbox Series X. 

The TCL C825 is a fairly premium, albeit still mid-range model that offers a 4K resolution Mini-LED display with thousands of local dimming zones, 100/120Hz panel, two 48Gbps HDMI 2.1 ports, as well as Dolby Vision IQ support. With HDMI 2.1 onboard, the TV supports additional features including Auto Low Latency Mode and enhanced Audio Return Channel. 

TCL is also bringing AMD FreeSync Premium support to its higher end TVs, such as the TCL X925 and X925 Pro. It also supports the feature on some of its U.S.-only models.
