A solid projector is a necessity for any home cinema setup worth its salt, but installing one together with an accompanying sound system can be a hassle, not to mention very expensive.

Or at least that used to be the case. Chinese firm XGIMI is looking to dispel that notion with its new MoGo Pro projector, which sports a wireless and super travel-friendly design.

The 1080p MoGo is currently being funded on Idiegogo, comes with built-in speakers from Harmon Kardon and can easily fit inside a regular sized backpack for a true cinema-on-the-go experience.

"Powered by Android TV, the MoGo Pro opens up a whole world of entertainment in a sleek and compact size which is small enough to fit in your bag and take outdoors with friends and family, or use as your everyday projector in the home," the company says on its Indiegogo page.

The MoGo features DLP projection technology and an LED light source, and is capable of throwing out 1.2:1 aspect, Full HD images at a maximum size of 76 inches when placed just two metres from the wall. It delivers brightness of 250 ANSI Lumens, and promises a 225 percent image quality improvement compared to 720p projectors. It also supports 4K input, autofocus and keystone correction.

Thanks to the inclusion of Google’s Chromecast, the MoGo can also be used to play video games by streaming that content from an Android, iOS or Windows device. The projector also includes Google Assistant to enable voice interaction.

The device itself is tiny, weighing in at 0.9 kilograms with dimensions of 146 x 105.5 x 94.5 mm. Connectivity options include Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, plus USB 2.0 and HDMI for those who like their cables.

Also noteworthy is the 10,400 mAh battery, which should provide enough juice for 2.5 hours of viewing, or 5 hours of listening if it’s only used for audio playback. The sound quality should be impressive too, thanks to those 32 mm, 3 watt Harmon Kardon speakers capable of delivering 360-degree all-around sound.

XGIMI said it’s launching the MoGo on Indiegogo in order to fund its production. Prices start at just $349 (£267) with shipping expected to begin in October.
