Home appliance brand Paris Rhône successfully debuted in the home cinema market last year following its first-ever crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo, and is now looking to build on that with the launch of its second projector mode.

The Paris Rhône SP005 is a very different beast from the company’s debut model, the LT002, which was a fairly expensive ultra-short throw projector priced at just shy of $2,000. The new model can’t be placed nearly as close to the wall, but on the other hand it’s much more affordable and it can deliver 4K images, unlike its predecessor.

Paris Rhône’s SP005 is said to have a 1.37.1 throw ratio, which means that if you want to hit a maximum 200-inch image, you’re going to need to plonk that box around 19 feet from whatever wall it is you intend to display it on.

However, while UST models are often about convenience, the Paris Rhône SP005 is more about providing detailed, big screen images at an affordable price. Whereas the LT002 was only Full HD, the SP005 goes up to 4K UHD resolution and has a refresh rate of 60 frames per second. It also supports the HDR10+ format for high dynamic range content, and its Intelligent Screen Adoption Technology combines four-point auto keystone correction and autofocus with intelligent screen alignment and the ability to resize the image if there’s something in the way.

While it promises to deliver good quality images, that may only be apparent in the evening, unless you’re somehow able to block out the sunlight, as its brightness is rated at a mere 600 lumens. On the other hand, the lifetime is estimated at more than 40,000 hours, Paris Rhône said.

Other specifications of note include 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage space onboard, with Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth connectivity and the Android TV interface for streaming apps such as Netflix and whatnot. The Paris Rhône SP005 also supports screen casting from Android smartphones. There’s a single HDMI 2.1 port plus USB and Ethernet LAN ports, and a 24-watt sound system that promises immersive audio quality.

The Paris Rhône SP005 is set to go on sale soon with a price tag of $699, though it is currently being offered for just $499 through a pre-order launch promotion.
