SkyShowtime said it’s expanding into Central and Eastern Europe from today, completing a European rollout that began last year. It’s also being made available on select Samsung Smart TVs.
“From 14 February, customers across all markets will be able to watch SkyShowtime through select Samsung Smart TVs," the company announced.
Those with older Samsung TVs need not worry, for Sky said compatible models include all Smart TVs from 2017 and later that run Tizen 3.0 or above. Samsung TVs prior to that will not get SkyShowtime, however.
The SkyShowtime app is already available on Android TV, Google TV, Apple TV and LG’s webOS TVs, as well as Chromecast devices.
The app bundles content from services including Universal, Showtime, Paramount, Paramount+, DreamWorks, Peacock and Sky Studios, and includes theatrical movies from Paramount and Universal that typically arrive a few months after their big-screen debut. It’s a joint venture streaming service that is designed to rival apps such as Netflix, Disney+ and HBO Max.
The European rollout of SkyShowtime began in September 2022 when it launched in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden, replacing Paramount+. That was followed by its launch in the Netherlands and Portugal in October, then Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Montenegro, Serbia and Slovenia in December.
Now, the app is being made available in countries such as Albania, Czechia, Hungary, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, and Slovakia, but there was no word on if it supports Dolby Atmos or 4K HDR.
“In the space of just five months, SkyShowtime has launched in over 20 markets across Europe,” said SkyShowtime CEO Monty Sarhan. “I’m extremely proud of the entire team who have worked so hard to make this a reality. We are dedicated to these markets and excited to bring new customers the entertainment they love at a price they will love. From the latest series and blockbuster movies from our iconic and world-renowned studios to original programming, SkyShowtime is the next great streaming service for Europe."
