HDTVTest is a freely available and independent online resource dedicated to providing UK and Eurocentric news, information, and most importantly original and comprehensive reviews related to high-definition television (HDTV), which are published at the web address www.hdtvtest.co.uk.
History
HDTVTest was founded in February 2007 by Vincent Teoh and Colin Tang, two home theatre enthusiasts who were frequently frustrated by the lack of in-depth UK-based reviews of HDTVs either in magazines or on websites.
After a debacle in the Christmas of 2006 when Vincent had to return his flat-screen HDTV three times to an unnamed manufacturer due to issues with "banding", they decided enough was enough – consumers deserved to be presented with accurate information on their potential big-ticket purchase before parting with their money.
Hence the birth of HDTVTest. Even though Colin has since left for pastures new shortly after launch, from humble beginnings the website has grown to become the leading high-definition television news and review portal in the United Kingdom and Europe thanks to ongoing support from readers, retailers and manufacturers.
Mission
HDTVTest.co.uk is designed to provide independent unbiased news and reviews of the latest HDTV models available to the consumers in the UK and Europe. A wide range of tests are conducted in a measurable and repeatable fashion using different source materials, with particular emphasis on picture quality AFTER calibration to video and broadcast industry standards.
All reviews are enriched by multimedia technologies in the form of photographs, animations and videos to give readers immersive experience and truthful representation of the HDTVs. Readers can post questions and contribute to each review either in the review article itself or in a separate forum. A selector tool is also available to help readers narrow down the list of HDTVs they should consider buying based on their budget and viewing preference.
