Hisense’s much-vaunted 116-inch UX RGB Mini-LED TV is going on sale in the U.S., Europe and Australia, providing the opportunity for wealthy consumers to transform their living rooms into luxury cinemas.
The company said its flagship 2025 TV model will be available to buy in September, and it’s going to be one of the largest consumer-grade televisions that money can buy, but you will need a lot of cash to spare if you want to do that.
The Hisense 116UX RGB Mini-LED TV was first unveiled in January at the Consumer Electronics Show alongside an even more enormous 136-inch MX MicroLED TV, and has already gone on sale in China. So now it’s the turn of Americans, Australians and Europeans (where it’s listed on the Hisense Spain website and called the 116UXQ).
Unlike traditional Mini-LED televisions which utilise a white light source that’s beamed through red, green and blue filters, the Hisense 116UX RGB Mini-LED TV employs “TriChroma” technology that features dedicated red, green and blue Mini-LEDs that emanate “spectrally pure” light at the source. According to Hisense, this means the 116UX RGB Mini-LED TV covers an impressive 95% of the BT.2020 colour gamut, which is much greater than the colour range of traditional televisions.
The TV also boasts an incredible 10,000-plus local dimming zones and can hit a whopping 8,000 nits in terms of peak brightness. This should translate into incredible contrast and crazily-realistic detail in shadowy scenes, even in the most sunsplashed of rooms, thanks to the Anti-Reflection PRO technology also employed by the display.
Inside, the 116UX RGB Mini-LED TV is powered by Hisense’s most powerful Hi-View AI Engine X processor, which enables lots of fancy AI processing and 4K upscaling of lower resolution content. Dolby Vision and IMAX Enhanced Certification are onboard, and the audio is just as powerful, with the TV boasting an integrated 6.2.2-channel CineStage X surround sound system that’s fine-tuned by Opéra de Paris and Devialet.
As well as the front-firing speakers, there are side-mounted units inspired by harp-like lines, which help to create an immersive soundstage. AI helps to track the on-screen action, and Dolby Atmos spatial processing is present too, enabling the TV to throw out sound and make it appear as if the viewer is right in the middle of the action on-screen. It looks sharp too, with a super-slim 40mm bezel that’s incredibly impressive for a TV of such size.
Hisense says the 116UX RGB Mini-LED TV is not just a premium TV – the intention is to transform spacious living rooms into a private cinema. This is in line with its ongoing push to push the boundaries of jumbo-sized TVs, following the launch of numerous 95-inch and above TV models over the last couple of years.
The only bad thing about this awe-inspiring TV is the incredible price that comes with owning one. We can’t say for sure yet how much it will cost in the U.K., as prices vary quite a bit from country to country. But needless to say, it’s going to cost a small fortune, wherever you buy it.
U.S. consumers look like getting the best deal, as it’s listed on Best Buy for $24,999 (around ₤18,420), while in Australia it’ll set you back around AU$39,999 (₤19,400). But in Europe it seems to be significantly more expensive, with Hisense’s Spanish site slapping on a €29,999 (₤25,800) price tag.
