JMGO's new O2S Ultra has the shortest throw ratio of any projector yet

Chinese electronics brand JMGO has announced the imminent availability of what has previously been claimed to be the world’s smallest laser TV. It’s called the JMGO O2S Ultra, and it boasts the “shortest throw ratio on the market”, the company said.

The O2S Ultra’s throw ratio is said to be just 0.16:1, and this means that it can throw up an impressive 100-inch image when it’s placed just 6.6-inches away from the wall or projection surface. That’s pretty damn close (as the image below reveals), and if you nudge it back a little further, the image size will increase to a maximum of 150-inches.

It’s a fairly powerful projector too, with the MALC 3.0 triple-laser system capable of hitting a high level of brightness rated at 3,600 ISO lumens. Colour accuracy is impressive too, with the company claiming that it covers 110% of the BT.2020 colour gamut, together with a 4,000:1 native contrast ratio and 3,000,000:1 in terms of dynamic contrast.

According to JMGO, these specifications allow the O2S Ultra to generate super sharp visuals where “every colour is accurate, ensuring total immersion, even in bright light.”

Those visuals will be 4K resolution too, and the company also points out its support for HDR10 content. The system is powered by Google TV, which serves up streaming entertainment over Wi-Fi 6. The projector has “official” support for Netflix, and from the product images, we can see that Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ and Hulu are also preinstalled. Alternatively, users will be able to connect media players and consoles via the two HDMI 2.1 ports, which support low-latency gaming. One of those ports supports enhanced audio return, which means it’s possible to add a soundbar or external speakers and create a more immersive soundscape.

There’s a Bluetooth remote control that supports voice search and vocal playback control. In terms of set up, there’s automatic keystone correction, fit-to-screen and autofocus to help get the visuals perfectly formatted, along with a special bit of software that JMGO says will compensate for uneven surfaces.

Those who don’t have a soundbar should still enjoy pretty decent audio thanks to the pair of built-in 20-watt Dynaudio speakers, which support Dolby Audio and DTS HD.

If the JMGO O2S Ultra sounds like something you need to have, you’ll be pleased to know that it’s available to pre-order now, but only if you live in the U.S. or Canada. It’s available at a special, pre-order price of $2,799 (around ₤2,080), but that will increase to $2,999 once it starts shipping next month. It can also be bundled with a special, 100-inch Ambient Light Rejecting screen for a total cost of $3,499.

Global availability is expected to follow shortly after the North American launch, the company said.
