Luxury camera brand Leica is accelerating its push into the world of premium projectors with the launch of yet another high-end model.
The company has just announced the Leica Cine Compact 1, and it’s destined to sit at the upper end of the portable projector segment. Like the company’s cameras and camera lenses, which is what it’s primarily known for, Leica’s projectors tend to have more advanced specifications than other devices in their class, fitting with the brand’s longstanding “luxury” reputation.
The Leica Cine Compact 1 has a similar form-factor to previous models such as the Leica Cine Play 1 and Leica Cine Play 1 Plus, which debuted in 2024 and 2025 respectively. What that means is it’s housed in a stylish one-piece aluminum frame with Bauhaus styling and a front that’s made entirely of glass. The centrepiece is the extremely powerful Summicron zoom lens made by Leica’s engineers, which sports aspherical elements. But despite the “Compact” branding, it’s a fair bit chunkier than other portable projectors, with dimensions of 209 x 226 x 193 milliemetres and a mass that tips the scales at 4.4 kilograms..
It does boast some pretty impressive specifications for a portable projection device, though. Leica explained that it’s powered by a tri-laser light source and 0.47-inch DMD combination that puts out 4K visuals at 1,700 ISO lumens, with the maximum image size being a sprawling 220-inches. The picture is said to cover 100% of the BT.2020 colour gamut, and it has a 1,500:1 native contrast ratio with support for the Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and HLG video formats.
Leica said you can expect to see “crisp details, natural colours and impressive brightness,” and the pictures will be enhanced by its Image Optimisation technology that ensures "consistently high display quality regardless of image size or location.” There are features like Autofocus, auto-keystone correction and intelligent screen resizing to simplify the setup process from wherever you position the projector, and there’s an integrated gimbal base that enables lots of horizontal and vertical flexibility. Leica also sells an optional floor stand as an accessory, but it’s not required.

The Leica Cine Compact 1 runs a licensed version of Hisense’s VIDAA operating system, which provides tons of streaming apps, and connectivity options include Wi-Fi 6, Apple AirPlay 2, Bluetooth and USB and HDMI 2.1 ports. The latter port supports eARC and has an input latency of less than 20 ms, which should make the projector’s Game Mode pretty worthwhile for massive-screen gaming experiences.
There’s also a punchy 2.0-channel sound system built into the Leica Cine Compact 1, which puts out 20-watts of sonic oomph and supports the Dolby Digital Plus and DTS Virtual:X surround sound formats.
Leica said it will start shipping the Cine Compact 1 on June 18. For now, availability and pricing has only been confirmed for the U.S., but the $1,995 price tag works out at just around £1,480 in U.K. money. That’s quite a bit cheaper than Leica’s Cine Play 1, which is priced at £2,950.
