LG Electronics has announced a big update to the LG Gaming Portal on its smart TVs, with the addition of a selection of new games that can be played using its Magic Remote control.
One of the most enjoyable new games is sure to be Just Dance Now, which is available on LG TVs running webOS 22 or later in the U.S., Australia, Sweden and Norway now, with wider availability to come in the following weeks. The game is the result of LG’s partnership with the developer Ubisoft, and allows friends to compete with one another trying to follow dance routines without a gaming console. LG said the Magic Remote’s built-in motion sensors will track the player’s movements, and can support multiple players at once.
Elsewhere, LG has partnered with Volley to bring a range of voice-controlled games to the webOS platform. Its lineup includes the popular TV game show Jeopardy! and originals such as Song Quiz. It’s a series of games that rely solely on voice inputs, designed for group play in the living room.
Racing fans will appreciate LG’s collaboration with Blacknut to launch Asphalt Legends Unite in the U.S., which is available free with ads and allows players to unlock all cars and tracks from the very beginning. Blacknut is also bringing a new title called My Little Puppy to LG’s TVs. It’s an adventure style game that follows a pet dog’s emotional journey as it slowly grows up.
LG also launched a new app called the LG Mobile Gamepad on Android and iOS. The app transforms user’s smartphones into a joypad that can be used to play supported games in the Gaming Portal, so users don’t have to buy a separate controller.
LG’s Gaming Portal was launched earlier this year within the webOS operating system, and is currently available in 30 countries. It’s available on its OLED smart TVs, LCD-based QNED televisions and many of its gaming monitors that run webOS 6.0 or above. It launched the service in partnership with Xbox, giving users access to the Xbox app and its Game Pass Ultimate library, as well as other cloud gaming services. In August, the company updated the Portal to support 4K/120Hz games.
According to LG, the Gaming Portal now provides access to more than 4,000 cloud-streamed games and over 600 casual titles, playable through any supported LG Smart TV using only the Magic Remote.
