LG Electronics' first Micro RGB TV lands CES Innovation Award

LG Electronics has confirmed that it will release its first Micro RGB TV featuring Micro-LED backlights next year.

The company hasn’t yet unveiled any Micro RGB TV models, but it revealed it’s planning to do so in a press release that focused on the numerous CES 2026 Innovation Awards its products have received ahead of next year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. FlatpanelsHD gets the credit for spotting the announcement first.

The TV barely received a mention, with LG choosing instead to focus on its transparent Signature OLED T model, which also received an award, but said towards the end that “other LG products recognized… include a premium LCD TV with Micro RGB technology.”

Micro RGB TVs have emerged as hot rivals to LG’s and Samsung Electronics’ premium OLED televisions this year. They’re based on a new type of display technology, also known as RGB LED, which uses a more advanced backlight for LCD TVs than Mini-LED. Rather than use single-colour LEDs and a filter, they implement red, green and blue LEDs, which enable more accurate colour reproduction and increased energy efficiency.

This year, we saw the first Micro RGB TVs launched by Samsung and Hisense, and Sony gave a big demonstration about its take on the technology, which will feature in its 2026 flagship television. TCL has also launched Micro RGB TVs, but they’re only available in China for now.

Here's a closer look at Samsung's first, absolutely massive Micro RGB TV:

And here's Hisense's even bigger 116UX TV RGB-MiniLED TV:

Sony, Samsung, Hisense and TCL have all said they’ll launch more affordable Micro RGB TVs in 2026 – good news considering that the only models available on the market so far will set you back a five-figure sum.

While LG will continue to focus primarily on OLED, it would have been a surprise if it didn’t also embrace the Micro RGB trend, given that it also offers a strong lineup of LCD-based QNED TV models featuring Mini-LED technology.

Given LG’s Micro RGB TV only got the briefest of mentions, we know absolutely nothing about it – not its size, its brightness, its price, or anything else. All we know is that it’s on the way, and we’ll definitely be hearing more about it soon.

Multiple awards

The company was a bit more open about its 77-inch Signature OLED T, which landed a Best of Innovation Award in the “Imaging” category, but that’s because it’s not exactly a “new” model. In fact, the company showcased the Signature OLED T at CES 2025, and it is already on sale in some markets – but beware that it costs even more than any Micro RGB TV we’ve seen so far, with a $59,999 (around ₤45,700!) price tag at Best Buy in the U.S.

The fact that an “old” model has received an award is unusual, but it may well be the case that LG has some sort of update that will be revealed at CES 2026. Or it might just be that it’s going to be launched in more markets.

LG also scooped up a pair of awards for its webOS smart TV platform in the AI and cybersecurity categories. It’s the second time in succession that webOS has been honoured for its excellence in the latter category, reinforcing its reputation as a secure software platform.

Other LG products mentioned in the release include the LG StanbyMe 2, its funky portable flagpole-style display on wheels, and the LG UltraFine evo 6K professional monitor, which is the first in the world to combine 6K resolution with the latest Thunderbolt 5 interface.

Perhaps for reasons of secrecy, LG didn’t mention a single one of its upcoming 2026 OLED televisions, but it would be a surprise if none of them landed an award. Likely, the company just wants to keep its cards close to its chest so it isn’t outmaneuvered at the last minute by its rivals.
