LG's new UltraGear evo monitors gives gamers lots to think about

LG Electronics has rolled out yet another pre-CES 2026 announcement, taking the wraps off of three new UltraGear evo gaming monitors, with one featuring its latest Tandem WOLED panel and another that’s said to be the world’s first 5K Mini-LED display.

First up is the LG UltraGear GX9, which is a 39-inch 5K2K ultra-wide monitor featuring the Tandem WOLED display. Its resolution is 5120 x 2160 and it has a 21:9 aspect ratio with a gentle 1500R curvature. It boasts an impressively fast native refresh rate of 165Hz, which can be cranked up to 330Hz in Dual Mode, where the resolution is toned down to Wide Full HD. Because of the OLED panel, its response time is almost instantaneous at just 0.003 milliseconds, LG said.

The GX9 also boasts VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification and is clearly trying to be the ultimate do-everything gaming display, with blazing-fast visuals and top-notch graphics capabilities. The company also highlighted its 5K AI upscaling, AI Scene Optimisation and AI Sound processing features, which are meant to improve both image and audio quality without putting too much stress on the gamer’s GPU.

Sitting alongside the GX9 is the LG GM9, which is a 27-inch Mini-LED display with 5K resolution – the first of its kind. While Mini-LED panels are prone to blooming and halo effects, LG said it has taken steps to get around this. The panel boasts 2,304 local dimming zones that enhance its blooming control capabilities, and there’s also a clever Zero Optical Distance engineering technique that shrinks the gap between the individual LEDs and the front of the display panel. This has the effect of enabling Mini-LED’s superior, ultra-high brightness to shine through while keeping the halo effects to a minimum and preserving detail and high-contrast.

The GM9 is VESA DisplayHDR 1000 certified and boasts a peak brightness of 1,250 nits, far in excess of any OLED monitor. As with the GX9, it features Dual Mode, so users can switch between 165Hz and 330Hz.

For gamers who prefer something faster and more immersive, the LG UltraGear G9 may be hard to beat. It’s a massive 52-inch 5K2K display and it has a native refresh rate of 240Hz, along with a novel 12:9 aspect ratio that gives it the same vertical height as a stretched, panoramic-style 42-inch TV (if such a thing exists!). It boasts VESA DisplayHDR 600 certification. According to LG, the unique form-factor makes the G9 33% wider than standard UHD monitors, and it also has a fairly aggressive 1000R curvature rating to increase the immersion for gamers who want to feel as if they’re plunged directly into their virtual reality.

There’s no Dual Mode here, as the G9 runs at 240Hz consistently, meaning there’s no need to sacrifice the higher resolution for breakneck-speed. LG did not mention the panel type, but considering the unusual nature, it can only be an LCD display.

There are no pricing or availability details yet, but LG will likely reveal more at CES 2026, which kicks off very early next year on January 6.
