Luxury TV brand Loewe has made an intriguing move, acquiring the French audio equipment manufacturer Cabasse.
Cabasse is known for making some extremely fancy speakers, with swirling designs such as La Sphère Evo and The Pearl that offer high-end acoustics to match their eye-catching appearance. The company also makes more affordable sound systems, such as the Pearl Akoya and the Swell portable Bluetooth speaker.
Germany-based Loewe is also associated with luxurious products, such as its deluxe Stellar OLED TV and the even more extravagant Stellar Alu Black + Lava, which is encased in a stone material that comes from the heart of a volcano. It also has an audio arm that makes luxury multi-room speakers, soundbars and headphones.
Given that both companies are focused on beautiful aesthetics, they seem like a good match for one another. Loewe framed the deal as a “strategic partnership,” and said Cabasse will continue to operate as an independent brand, even though it’s now owned by the German firm.
Loewe added that it intends to invest in Cabasse’s talent, infrastructure and product research while also assisting it with product sales, marketing and distribution. Loewe’s wider range of products means it’s the better known of the two companies globally, and it recently began selling its TVs in the U.S. for the first time.
The deal means Loewe will, of course, get access to Loewe’s audio technology, including its digital-signal processing tech, its loudspeaker designs and all of its patents. The company will leverage these to create “a new generation of high-end audiovisual products,” under its own brand.
That means it’s not clear if Loewe’s future TVs will be branded with Cabasse sound technology or not, but in any case, we do expect them to integrate the French company’s audio expertise.
Cabasse’s deputy CEO Arnaud Hendoux said the company is beginning a new chapter in its history. “We will continue to innovate from [our HQ in] Brest, true to our heritage, while benefitting from a powerful international platform to accelerate our development,” he promised.
