Netflix App Debuts On Samsung Smart TV Apps Store

A recent announcement from Korean consumer electronics manufacturer Samsung has confirmed that the latest addition to its Smart TV App store will be the worldwide subscription service for TV programmes and movies online, Netflix. Users will be able to access tens of thousands of television programmes from both the US or the UK, and recently released movie titles using the Netflix app, which is available initially on the Samsung D7000 and D8000 series of internet-connected HDTV displays, and later extended to the 2012 ranges of Blu-ray players and Smart TVs.

Netflix app debuts on Samsung Smart TV Apps store

Netflix is currently offering a free one-month trial subscription to its service that will allow users to stream and watch an unlimited number of films and TV programmes on their PCs, mobile devices or Smart TV sets. Once this has ended, users can carry on accessing the app for £5.99 a month without needing to be tied into any contract, so they can cancel the service whenever they like.

Samsung UK’s director for TV Guy Kinnell explained that their commitment to provide customers with a wide selection of top-quality video services has led them to bringing Netflix on board. He added that for viewers who enjoy watching television and films, the addition of the Netflix Smart TV application along with the various methods of payment across their entire range of entertainment apps will provide excellent value for money.

Greg Peters, the vice president of product development at Netflix, said that the huge variety of TV programmes and movies that can be streamed by Netflix over the internet straight onto Samsung Smart TVs will give Netflix users in the United Kingdom one of the best streaming experiences currently available. With apps like YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, BBC iPlayer, Rightmove and Teletext Holiday available on Samsung internet-enabled Smart TV models, the new Netflix app will be another welcome addition to the constantly expanding range of services that are becoming available to owners.

  1. I have the Samsung D8000 and just downloaded the NetFlix App but you can’t use it until you upgrade the Samsung Software (which is not currently available).

  2. When will netflix be available for the D5520. The app store for this tv needs some refreshment its getting stale .

  3. I’m keen to subscribe…I have the samsung 6600. Will it be available soon?

  4. I would also like to know if it will be available for the D5520, as I was just about to buy it, but would really like this app.

  5. Yes, I also need it for my D5520.

  6. James S. The update for the D8000 was available on the same day as the Netflix download.

  7. Hey Graeme. Thanks for the info. The “Software Upgrade” button in the d8000 menu has been unavailable for me since I posted my original message, and funnily enough its now available this evening for the first time!.. no more netflix via noisy xbox :)

  8. Please please please make it available for D5520 ASAP, yes it’s cheaper model, but widely spread. Thank you.

  9. I’ve got a ue40d6530 and i can’t seem to find the netflix app available has anyone else with this model managed to download it?

  10. I also have a D5520, great tv already and would be even better with the ability of the Netflix App. Come on Samsung, lets see it soon please.

  11. Another D5520 request, this needs to be added!

  12. I’d like to see it added for the C8000 also…

  13. Apps for the Smart TV are rubbish and needs new apps ASAP.. Netflix etc…

  14. Yes when is this coming out for D5000? Are there plans?

  15. Need Netflix for c6500 also please

  16. Ive just signed up for Netflix and just expected my D5520 to support it! Obviously it doesn’t and it’s disappointing.

  17. I just got a Samsung HT-D6730 home theater system and the fact that it was able to stream Netflix was one of the big reasons why I bought it. However, compared to Netflix in my PS3, the online streaming selection for the Samsung blu-ray player is very, very weak. For example, the horror genre selection on the PS3 is 75, on the Samsung Netflix ap, it’s a weak 16 movies – pathetic! If I would’ve known, I probably would’ve gotten another PS3 for the living room.

  18. another request for Netflix for the D5520.

I’m not paying £80 for a WIS09ABGN wireless usb adaptor until netflix is available.

  19. So the D5520 claims to support the SMART apps but apparently Netflix app isn’t available on this particular TV? Get it sorted quickly Samsung, or it’s off to a competitor who does support Netflix for me…
And while you are at it, fix your website so you can more easily discover what TVs support what advanced Internet type options.

  20. When will Netflix be available (in the UK) for the HT-C6500 home cinema? I cannot download the app at the moment as it is not featured.

  21. Just shelled out £800 for a ps51d6900 3d smart tv. I was very dissapointed that theres no Netflix, most of the reason why I bought it. When will there be an update, as its able to run on US models?

  22. Have LE46C750R when Netflix on this?

  23. Very disappointed with Samsung!! It’s worst than Apple. Updates are rare, and older products are not supported at all. TV C8000 series don’t exist for them any more. Time to switch from Samsung to someone who’s looking after his customers. Pooooooooooooooorr!!!

  24. netflix is not on my app store on my smart tv type in the search bar netflix it takes me too the app thn i click on it thn it takes me bk too the app store why?

  25. Mine is the same as Roberts please can someone help!

  26. I just bought 2 Samsung Smart TVs, one of 46″ and one of 37, they are called by Samsung Smart TVs, I guess they are not so Smart as they dont have the Netflix application for download (yet?)…

  27. I purchased a Samsung Smart TV partly because of netflix but cant get it, even though the logo is all over all the marketing & even on the app section of samsung website doesnt mention that availability is limited. Really dissapointed samsung!

  28. Agree wholeheartedly with Rachel’s post. I have just bought a ES5500 with the primary purpose of watching Netflix on it. And the reason I did so was that Netflix is all over the Samsung marketing, the TV’s box etc. And nowhere – except on this review has anyone mentioned the limited availability on Netflix (although UK support have since confirmed it).
What’s more, the smart hub update has just installed the Netflix app all by itself…absolute shocking quality from Samsung. If it doesn’t work then why is it a) marketed and b) downloaded?
It would seems that the marketing folks have finally got ahead of the techies at Samsung – which is bad news for the future quality of the company’s products.

  29. I am very disappointed myself as i also have a D5520 model and can not download the netflix app. Samsung sort it out please!

  30. Time that Samsung looked after it customers instead of burying its head in the sand. No netflix app for my D6500, very disappointing.

  31. Is there a search on C5500 BluRay player? And no Netflix, yet everywhere I look its apparently easy to install. Is there anyway to download it and add it or updates? Not happy with this!!

  32. yep one more con we all fell for

  33. I have a D5520.Why do we have a lovefilm and Blinkbox app but not the Netflix app? Surely Netflix wants our custom! And surely this wouldn’t take long to resolve. Not impressed at all!

  34. Just signed up to netflix but will be cancelling- have found there is no point as i have Samsung 5520 TV, with no Netflix App.

  35. James carpenter

i have the eu40d3650 samsung smart tv and no app for netflix on it either. or on the 6100 model
we should all get a petition up and running to make samsung do something about it.

  36. I have a D5520 Smart TV and would like the Netflix app too, come on!

  37. I have a brand new 2012 Samsung Blu Ray Home Theatre (HT-4500) with the latest firmware and no Netflix. I instead signed up to LoveFilm for 4.99 instant streaming- it’s cheaper than Netflix and they obviously care enough to want my business.

I don’t think this is just Samsung’s fault. Poor show Netflix. Poor show Samsung.

  38. I will never get another samsung anything phone tv,,,, i had to try type into the browser so many times i got a headache,,it took longer to try get netflix on tv than to watch jesus of nazareth,,,,please do not reply,, i have done with samsung

  41. Looking for Netflix app for UE46C7705WS

  42. I purchased a Smart Samsung Television and while there are apps there is NO APP for NETFLIX in the UK
When are Samsung going to put the Netflix app up as I am a paying Netflix customer and only have access via my laptop at present.
If I wish to watch a Netflix movie i have to connect my laptop to my Samsung TV which is not good enough.
As Acertrax and Lovefilm are there I want NETFLIX to be there too,

  43. Netflix for C-series TV’s also please.

Why we here @europe cannot use Netflix and USA customers can???

  44. Samsung should get thier act together, I have a thousand pound TV with no app to use Netflix . They wonder why we buy apple products, roll on the Apple TV launch .

  45. I purchased a Samsung Smart television in Januray 2012 its now January 2013 and I still see Netflix app to download.
Get it sorted, Samsung !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! as my money was spent on false pretences and promises by Samsung

  46. I also got a ‘Smart TV’ a Nordic version EU46D5727exspsectating tobe able to watch Netflix when it would be avalible here in Denmark…
    BUT NO NETFLIX app..
    I own 4 SAMSUNG LED TV 24-32-40-46 #.
If Samsung won’t show their customers the consideration then I’ll NEVER BUY A SAMSUNG product Again.. The SUPPORT is SH/T

  47. htc5500 dont work with love film and netflix not available what a waste of money this samsung device was.

  48. We bought a Samsung Smart TV back in August 2012 and the Netflix app is really bad. If you try to watch a movie the app says it is having trouble loading it. This television cost $1500 and its worthless to us since we don’t have cable or dish networks. All we wanted was to watch Netflix, but it’s impossible to do so.

  49. Don’t understand why everyone is moaning I have Netflix on my Samsung TV there are 3 buttons to press on your smart remote and presto it is in your App Store it took me about 10 mins and it works fine

  50. I have spoken to Samsung and netflix about the issue… netflix haven’t made the app available in our region. It is not Samsungs fault, netflix just haven’t supplied a compatable region app.
If Netflix gets enough requests they will make it available; so go to their website and either email, chat or phone them and request that it is made available. (all free)

  51. There is a Netflix app which does work on my daughter’s 6710 but there is still no app for my 6530 so it can’t be just Netflix’s fault.

Samsung over to you, or don’t you care about people like us?

  52. I have Apple TV and the Netflix App is much clearer and sound better with the Apple TV app than it is with the Netflix App. Why is this? I mean a major downgrade in quality watching it on Samsung TV…

  53. Hi
I need NETFLIX Icon on my UN55C6900VF SAMSUNG TV.
