Optoma's new flagship 4K projector has 5,000 lumens brightness

Just days after unveiling its low-cost UHZ36, the Taiwanese projector brand Optoma has launched a new flagship model in the shape of the UZ78LV.

This 4K triple-laser DLP Optoma UZ78LV projector is a real heavy hitter in every sense, aiming to deliver “premium, large-screen performance” in basically any environment. According to the company, it beams out pictures at an incredible 5,000 lumens of brightness, ranging from 80-inches at the minimum all the way up to 300-inches if you’re looking for a true, cinematic experience.

While night time viewing environments are always better for projectors, Optoma said the UZ78LV is so bright that it will be able to achieve cinematic scale pictures with vibrant colour accuracy and the strongest contrast performance, even in broad daylight.

The secret sauce is provided by Optoma’s PureEngine Ultra picture processing system, which offers ISF calibration tools and Filmmaker Mode for cinephiles that insist on seeing movies exactly as they were imagined by their creators. Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and IMAX Enhanced are all supported too, while connectivity options include HDMI 2.1 with eARC support to enable Dolby Atmos passthrough for external sound systems.

The company said the UZ78LV’s pictures cover 100% of the DCI-P3 colour gamut and also achieve up to 96% of the BT.2020 colour space, ensuring true-to-life accuracy. Meanwhile the dynamic contrast ratio is rated at an impressive 4,500,000:1, which should ensure vivid detail that really stands out in those bright and dark scenes.

Gamers should be well set too, because the HDMI 2.1 port boasts an input lag of just 8.5 milliseconds at 1080p at 240Hz, or 4K at 120Hz.

If you decide to splash out on the Optoma UZ78LV, you’ll also be getting some cool flexibility options to ease the setting up process, with a motorised 1.6x zoom, lens shift and 360-degree projection. Optoma said the laser’s lifetime is rated at 30,000 hours.

While Optoma hasn’t yet provided an official price, the UZ78LV is currently listed on LDLC for €6,489, which works out at around £5,672 at the current exchange rate.
