Optoma's newest 4K projector enables immersive gaming with giant 320-inch images

Optoma is expanding its home cinema lineup with the launch of its new UZZ58LV 4K DLP projector, promising stunning visuals and colour accuracy and specifications that should make it a dream come true for gamers.

The all-new Optoma UZZ58LV features a powerful dual-laser light source that’s capable of shining bright in all environments, with brightness hitting 3,000 lumens. One of the main benefits of that dual laser is that it lasts much longer than traditional projection engines, with the company claiming a 30,000 hour lifespan.

It’s not a native 4K projector because it uses Texas Instruments’ XPR pixel-shifting technology to achieve higher resolution, but the company promises that it’s effective enough that you won’t really notice – even when projecting images up to a maximum size of 320-inches. In case you didn’t notice, that’s absolutely huge and puts many of the best professional-grade projectors to shame, and even better – the company promises that its image quality is every bit as good as what you’ll see in a real cinema.

For instance, the UZZ58LV delivers 95% coverage of the DCI-P3 colour gamut, and this is paired with its PureEngine system, which uses AI algorithms to enhance the colour output, contrast, image detail and motion clarity to ensure “lifelike reproduction” and “excellent precision”. It’s supplemented by PureMotion control to eliminate judder.

Also impressive is the contrast ratio of 3,000,000:1, and its support for high dynamic range content, which extends to the premium HDR10+ format. For those who’d rather not have the AI tinkering with their pictures, they can utilise Filmmaker Mode, which aims to reproduce films and shows as the creator intended. In addition, there are ISF Day and Night modes, which optimise the images based on the ambient lighting conditions in the room you’re watching.

The specifications suggest that the Optoma UZZ58LV has great potential, both as a serious home cinema device and in more casual setups. The latter is aided by its compact form factor – it’s small enough to sit in the palm of your hand. There are lots of flexible installation features on board too, including a 1.6x zoom, optical vertical lens shift, four-corner correction, auto-keystone correction and 360º Projection support, which means it can be installed almost anywhere, including the ceiling.

The Optoma UZZ58LV’s gaming potential sounds exciting too. The company said it can handle refresh rates of 240Hz at 1080p resolution, or 120Hz at 4K, with a low latency connection of just 8.5 milliseconds, or even lower if you scale down the frame rates.

Optoma said the UZZ58LV is available to buy now globally, priced at £1,999 in the UK and $2,299 in the U.S.
