Sony made big news by selling more than one million Playstation 4 consoles within the first 24 hours of its release.
Sony’s newest console is definitely off to a roaring start. The company made the announcement today that it had sold more than one million consoles in the first 24 hours. It launched on Friday in Canada and the United States, and experts say it is an impressive start for just these two countries.
The Playstation 4 is the fastest-selling video game console ever released by Sony. In two weeks, European sales start, so it’s totally possible that the next-generation console from Sony could overtake Nintendo’s Wii U sales by year’s end. Sony does have some serious competition this holiday season, though, because the Microsoft Xbox One console is launching on the 22nd of November. This holiday season is starting look good for console manufacturers.
A company spokesperson said, in response to the stellar consumer response, that the PS4 was created with an uncompromising commitment to gamers. He went on to say that he was grateful for the passion exhibited by Playstation fans, and he thanked them for their support.
Different analysts expect the console to move between 2.5 to 3 million units throughout the fourth quarter of 2013 in North America.
The launch didn’t go flawlessly, however, despite how high the sales numbers were. Some customers reported problems with firmware updates; plus, the Playstation Network went down because of the additional stress seen on launch day.
Experts say that these issues will probably be fixed and others reported before the launch in Europe in two weeks.
Clearly, Sony listened to consumers and gave them what they asked for. The astonishing sales records set by the Japanese consumer electronics manufacturer illustrate just how well the company listened to their customers to offer them something that would elicit so much desire.
