Yaber beefs up its T2 portable projectors with Google TV

Yaber is expanding its portable projector range with the launch of the Yaber T2 Plus GTV edition, which integrates the Google TV operating system directly within the hardware.

The Yaber T2 Plus Google TV edition follows last year’s launch of the T2 and T2 Plus projector models, which were great, except that both needed a dongle to be attached to access streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.

But with Google TV now built in, the company says in its press release that it “eliminates the hassle of setup and the risk of losing dongles, but also delivers a cleaner, more streamlined look.”

In addition, the hardware itself has been given some welcome upgrades. For instance, there’s a new “high-performance motherboard” that offers 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage, which is more than last year’s models. It means users should see more responsiveness and faster launching of streaming applications. They’ll also be able to download more apps in general.

Because Google TV is onboard, that also means the Yaber T2 Plus GTV portable projector supports voice controls, Google Cast and DLNA, enabling simple screen mirroring if you have a smartphone handy. The device is said to support 34 languages, including Arabic and Hebrew, which weren’t available before.

As for the actual projector, it sounds fairly decent. It comes with a sealed optical engine to keep out dust, and delivers 1080p resolution content at 400 lumens of brightness. With its 1.25:1 throw ratio, you’ll be able to project a giant 100-inch picture on any wall from just 1.54 feet away, or half a metre. An easy set up is assured thanks to features such as autofocus, automatic keystone correction, intelligent screen alignment and obstacle avoidance. There’s a sturdy handle too, and this flips over to double as a stand to project the image at an upwards angle, so it can easily be placed on the floor.

As for audio, Yaber once again turned to Harman Kardon’s JBL brand, which has integrated a 16-watt Dolby Atmos system with the device, the same as the T2 and T2 Plus. The battery remains unchanged, meaning it will be good for around two and a half hours of viewing, which should ensure you can watch at least one movie. Obviously, if you want to watch more and you’re far from a power outlet, you’ll want to invest in a power pack or two.

The projector can also be used as a Bluetooth speaker, and if that is all you’re doing with it, the battery will keep going for up to 18 hours, the company said. Bluetooth is an option for connecting to content sources, as is Wi-Fi 6, and there are HDMI and USB ports as well.

All in all it sounds like a fairly capable little device, and while it can’t compete with the blazing brightness of more expensive projectors built for daytime viewing, it should be just fine once the sun goes down, or if the curtains are closed.

The Yaber T2 Plus GTV is currently on sale in the U.S., where it is priced at $349 (around £257) on Amazon, though it can be had for a special price of just $299 if you’re willing to snap it up in the next few days. It’ll go on sale in the U.K. later, but the company has not yet set a date for that to happen.
