Popular Chinese projector brand Xgimi is set to announce a new model at IFA 2023 called the Horizon Ultra, having published a teaser on its website with a clock counting down to the highly anticipated event.
While we don’t have full details yet, the teaser does provide quite a few takeaways. The first and most important detail is the throw ratio of 1.2-1.5, which suggests that this is absolutely not an “ultra-short throw” model, but rather a traditional long-throw projector, meaning it has to be set some way back from the wall or screen. We can also see from the stylish albeit boxy design that it’s not as compact as earlier Xgimi models, and probably won’t fit snugly onto your coffee table. Xgimi orginally made its name for its excellent series of portable and compact projectors, which included both long and short-throw models.
From the images, we can clearly see a 4K symbol but that doesn’t tell us if it will be native 4K or merely use pixel-shifting technology to recreate a 4K image, much like the Horizon Pro model it is probably going to succeed.
On the other hand, the Xgimi Horizon Ultra does appear to have some advanced precision controls such as automatic keystone adjustment and auto-focusing, which enables easy setup, even if the projector is at an angle to the wall it projects the image onto.
There’s a large speaker grille and a Harmon-Kardon brand logo clearly visible, suggesting that the U.S. audio company is taking care of the sound.
We also know the Horizon Ultra will have a “Dual Light” light source which combines laser and LED. According to Xgimi, this merges the brightness and precision of LED colours with the sharpness and contrast of laser to deliver more accurate images all round. No brightness has been specified, but the predecessor was capable of hitting 2,200 lumens, so we can expect something similar, or even brighter with the Horizon Ultra.
Beyond those details, we’re not really sure what else to expect. The good news is that there’s not long to wait, as Xgimi will fully unveil the new Horizon Ultra at IFA 2023 on August 31.
