Acer's first Primary RGB Tandem OLED monitor hits 720Hz

Pro PC gamers will likely be rubbing their hands with glee at the prospect of Acer’s new Predator X27U F8 monitor featuring LG Display’s Primary RGB Tandem OLED technology. It’s one of the fastest monitors money can buy, rivalling the new Asus ROG Swift OLED PG27AQWP-W with support for up to 720Hz.

Acer announced the Predator X27U F8 alongside a new monitor featuring Samsung Display’s QD-OLED display tech, as well as a couple of more affordable, minimalist monitors under its newly acquired “Amadana” brand.

The Taiwanese company chose to announce its new products at this year’s IFA Berlin 2025 event this week, just a couple of weeks after its rival Asus announced the PG27AQWP-W, which was billed at the time as the world’s fastest dedicated gaming monitor.

While Asus actually announced two different Primary RGB Tandem OLED monitors, Acer appears to be limiting itself to just one in the Acer Predator X27U F8, but it looks to be every bit as good as its rival’s flagship model, albeit with a somewhat less flashy design. The company does not explicitly say that it’s using LG’s display tech, but it undoubtedly does, for it’s the only commercially available OLED display that offers a refresh rate of 540Hz at 4K resolution, scaling to 720Hz at 1080p.

In a statement, the company explained that Predator X27U F8 is a 26.5-inch display that’s designed to enable a “stellar gameplay” experience for gamers. It employs the company’s Dynamic Frequency Resolution tech to enable seamless switching between WQHD at 540Hz and 1280x720 at 720Hz, allowing gamers to “optimise” the graphics performance for different game genres.

Acer did not mention a price tag, but its monitors are usually priced somewhat lower than Asus’s competing products, so it will likely be an appealing option for gamers who want the slickest, fastest graphics without going over budget.

As an alternative, gamers may also want to look at the new Acer CE270U Z (pictured above), which is a 27-inch QD-OLED monitor that features 2560x1440 resolution and a still very fast 280Hz refresh rate.

There’s also a selection of new Nitro monitors, which use traditional LCD displays and are aimed at more casual gamers. There are four in total – the Nitro XV275K V6, Nitro XV273U W1, Nitro XV270X and Nitro XZ403CKR – offering a choice of sizes and performance at different price points.

Finally, Acer also unveiled its new range of Amadana monitors, notable for their minimalist designs and bright colours, which stem from its acquisition of the Japanese design firm Amadana last year. These include the 16-inch Amadana 16APM1QJ, which features an IPS LCD panel and is described as a portable monitor. There’s also the Amadana 27ART0 (pictured above), which is a 27-inch IPS LCD monitor with a 144Hz refresh rate.
