Asus's new Primary RGB Tandem OLED gaming monitor looks amazing

Asus has just announced the world’s fastest, flashiest and arguably the most stylish OLED gaming monitor ever made, and it truly is a sight to behold.

The Asus ROG Swift OLED PG27AQWP-W was revealed this week at the Gamescom 2025 event, where the company explained it’s equipped with a 25-inch 2,560 x 1,440 QHD Primary RGB Tandem OLED display with an incredibly fast 540Hz refresh rate. But it gets better, for the speed can be cranked up to an almost unprecedented 720Hz when scaling down the graphics to 1,080p resolution, thanks to its dual-mode capabilities.

The OLED PG27AQWP-W cannot lay claim to being the fastest computer monitor ever made, because brands like Koorui and HKC have both released models that hit blazing-fast speeds of 750Hz at 1080p resolution, but they’re not really anything like as good, because they’re based on LCD panels. That means they won’t even come close to matching the colour accuracy, contrast levels and viewing angles afforded by Asus’s new monitor. In addition, they max out at 1080p, so users don’t have the option to switch to higher resolutions and see greater detail when speed isn’t required.

Thanks to LG Display’s next-generation Primary RGB Tandem OLED technology, the Asus OLED PG27AQWP-W should ensure superb HDR performance, with exceptionally high brightness. The new display tech should also increase the monitor’s lifespan, with rich, vibrant colours and ultra deep blacks ensuring some of the most realistic images ever seen on a monitor. The company has also added an “anti-glare” coating to make it perform even in sun-splashed environments.

While not everyone may have a need for such incredible speed, the OLED PG27AQWP-W stands out in other ways too. For one thing, it’s one of the most stylish products of its kind ever seen, with its skeletal silver and translucent design and its chunky, three-blade propeller-like stand helping it to stand out among a sea of black-framed monitors.

Asus hasn’t yet said when it will release the OLED PG27AQWP-W, and it did not mention a price, but given the glossy looks and the cutting-edge used to build it, we can imagine it will be one of the most expensive gaming monitors ever released.

Alongside the OLED PG27AQWP-W, Asus is launching a second gaming monitor based on the same Primary RGB Tandem OLED panel, called the Asus ROG Strix OLED XG27AQWMG (below). As the name suggests, it’s a 27-inch ultrawide monitor, but it’s not quite as fast as the flagship, with its refresh rate maxing out at 280Hz. Another key difference is that it only has HDMI 2.1 ports and a single DisplayPort 1.4 connector, as opposed to the DisplayPort 2.1a found on the PG27AQWP-W, which supports 80Gbps bandwidth signals.

The new monitors both come with Asus’s proprietary “Neo Proximity Sensor” technology, which uses the integrated web camera to try and measure the distance from the user’s face to the monitor. By doing this, it can automatically put the monitor into black screen standby mode when the user gets up and walks away, before springing back to life when they return. Asus said this helps to reduce energy consumption and protect against OLED burn-in.

While the Asus is undoubtedly a beast of a gaming monitor, users should note it won’t be the only one, for LG Display supplies the same Primary RGB Tandem OLED panel to plenty of other brands, including LG Electronics, MSI, Dell’s Alienware and SDC.
