Loewe is doubling down on the smaller TV segment with a refreshed We. See lcd TV range, launching new 32-inch and 43-inch “dc” models that look set to replace the originals from 2024.
The German company said the updated We. See lcd range is designed to deliver “premium picture quality, immersive sound and immersive smart features in space-conscious homes.” It looks as though Loewe is expanded its push to own the market for premium smaller TVs, for these new models come just a few weeks after the company announced its new Vega TVs, which come in the same sizes and boast a 4K UHD Direct LED panel.
The new dc models look pretty similar to those Vega TVs, with the added dc initials meaning they come with a dual-channel audio systems, although they do cost a bit less.
Like the Vega TVs, the new We. See lcd dc televisions sport 4K resolution (up from Full HD on the original We. See models) Direct LED panels with Full-Array local dimming. According to the company, you’ll find 390 local dimming zones on the larger model and 260 on the smaller version, with those numbers matching what’s found on the Vega models. The inclusion of so many zones should ensure much deeper blacks and more vivid colours than you’d normally find on TVs of this size, and Loewe promised they have “finely-tuned brightness control,” too. As with the Vega TVs, they both support Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10 and HLG pictures.
The TVs also introduce a twin triple-tuner, which means users can enjoy watching one programme while recording another, similar to the dc versions of Loewe’s OLED televisions. There’s support for USB recording and timeshift functions, and they run Loewe’s os9 operating system, which provides access to all of the big streaming platforms and the VIDAA app store, due to it being based on Hisense’s software. Apple AirPlay 2, Miracast and Matter are all supported.
Loewe said the 32-inch model has a 60Hz refresh rate, while the 43-inch model boosts this up to 120Hz, which should make it an intriguing smaller option for console gamers, especially as it also supports VRR and ALLM. There’s cloud gaming access too, with both the Blacknut and Boosteroid apps preinstalled on these TVs.
The sound emanates from a powerful 60-watt front-firing soundbar that’s integrated with the TVs, and there’s support for Dolby Atmos too. If you want to connect them to an external sound system, you’ll be pleased to know they’re compatible with Loewe’s speaker range, including the We. Boost. Home Theatre System and the klang sub 1 subwoofer.
If you're wondering what sets the Vega models apart from these new TVs, the answer appears to be the craftsmanship that has gone into them. The Vega series – which cost quite a bit more – justify their higher price point because of their superior, luxurious bodywork, utilising brushed aluminum materials, a more sophisticated integrated stand and a premium "Made in Germany" design.
If you’re willing to sacrifice the luxurious design, the still-stylish Loewe We. See. lcd dc TVs can be had for quite a bit cheaper than the Vega TVs. They’re selling in the U.K. now, with the 32-inch model priced at £999 and the 43-inch version tagged at £1,349. In contrast, Loewe’s Vega models are going for £1,650 and £1,900 respectively.
The standard, non-dc We. See. lcd TVs are still on sale, mind, at even lower prices of just £749 and £1,099, respectively, if you’re willing to forsake the superior sound and picture quality. Just bear in mind that even at those “low” prices, it’s still a hell of a lot of cash to throw at such a tiny TV.
