Redmi's first RGB LED TVs are much more affordable than anything else

Xiaomi’s sub-brand Redmi has just announced what we believe is the most affordable RGB LED TV that money can buy, with prices starting at an incredible £305 at the current exchange rate.

The new TV in question is called the Redmi TV X Mini LED and it will be sold in four sizes – 55-, 65-, 75- and 85-inches. It follows the release of Xiaomi’s own-branded Xiaomi TV S Pro 2027 series, which went on sale in China last month.

The Redmi models aren’t quite as premium as the Xiaomi TVs, which is why they’re priced much more affordably. For instance, the largest 85-inch model has 864 colour control zones compared to 3,744 on the 85-inch Xiaomi TV S Pro model. They’re not nearly as bright either, with the Redmi TV X Mini LED TVs maxing out at a rather mediocre 1,300 nits, which is much dimmer than the 5,500 nits on Xiaomi’s TVs.

Nonetheless, the Redmi TV X Mini LED models are still equipped with RGB LED displays, which are a real match for OLED displays in terms of their overall performance. And they do have some nice, performance-related features. For instance, their 4K panels have a native 180Hz refresh rate, which makes them very solid options for console gamers, and there’s a dedicated gaming mode which pushes this up to 360Hz when the resolution is lowered to Full HD 1,080p. VRR is supported and AMD FreeSync Premium is also available.

Redmi’s press materials also highlight Dolby Vision and HDR10+ as well as Filmmaker Mode for cinema enthusiasts who want to view content in the way its creators intended for it to be seen. Under the hood, the TVs are powered by a five-core A55 system-on-chip, and have 3 gigabytes of RAM and a generous 64GB of storage space.

For audio, there’s a beefy four-speaker Harman Karman speaker system built into the TV that’s powered by Harman AudioEFX technology. The TVs ship with the HyperOS 4 operating system, and they have two HDMI 2.1 ports.

Such specifications are not bad at all when you look at the prices. The 55-inch Redmi TV X Mini LED is priced at 2,705 RMB, which works out at around £305 in U.K. money at the current exchange rate. The 65-inch model costs 3,411 RMB (around £385), the 75-inch is priced at 4,117 RMB (£465) and the largest 85-inch model costs 5,293 RMB (£600).

Those prices really stand out – according to Gemini, the cheapest RGB LED TV that money can buy in the U.K. currently is Samsung’s 55-inch MRE55R85H, which is listed on PriceRunner at £999, discounted from £1,099. There’s also LG’s 50-inch MRGB88 Mini RGB AI 4K HDR Smart TV on sale at Curry’s for £1,099, while the superior Samsung R85H starts at £1,199 for the 55-inch model. That makes Redmi’s first RGB LED TV an unbelievable three-times cheaper.

Most consumers will be hard-pressed to find another RGB LED TV that’s even close to being as affordable as what Redmi is offering,, which makes the Redmi TV X Mini LED series very interesting indeed. The only question is whether or not they’ll ever be released outside of China, and if they are, at what price?
