LG Display's brand spanking new 27-inch OLED gaming panel featuring a rapid-fast 540Hz Dynamic Frequency & Resolution display has been recognized as the best in the business by the Society for Information Display.
The panel has just been awarded the “Display of the Year” title by the SID Display Week organiser for the wide acclaim it has received and the way it dramatically enhances video gaming experiences for gamers.
LG Display’s panel is one of the fastest in its class, capable of reaching a refresh rate of 720Hz when the resolution is scaled down to full HD. This is enabled by the company’s proprietary DFR technology, which enables users to rapidly switch from one frame rate to the next in a split second.
According to LG Display, the 720Hz mode is especially valuable in games where rapid screen transitions are essential and where victory can be decided in a split-second, such as fast-paced first-person shooters like Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege or racing games. The refresh rate of 720Hz in HD resolution is the fastest available on an OLED gaming panel, eliminating artefacts such as ghosting and motion blur on even the busiest games, enabling players to enhance their gameplay. Thanks to the application of LG’s proprietary algorithms, the drop in picture quality is barely noticeable. In the most competitive gaming contests, it provides gamers with a distinct edge over their rivals.
Alternatively, players can push back the speed to a still incredible fast 540Hz and enjoy superior graphics in UHD resolution.
The panel notably achieved the Video Electronics Standards Association’s ClearMR 21000 certification, which is the highest rating available. It can be found in a number of high-end gaming monitors this year, including LG Electronic's new 27GX790B and the ViewSonic XG273F-2K-OLED, as well as Acer's Predator X27U F8.
LG Display’s chief technology officer Young-seok Choi said the company’s goal going forward is to remain at the forefront of the video gaming display market by leveraging its “differentiated OLED technologies and relentless pursuit of innovation.”
The award is one of the industry’s most prestigious. The Society for Information Display’s annual Sid Display Week is the world’s largest display-focused exhibition, and typically attracts more than 7,000 experts, researchers and professors each year, as well as representatives from leading display makers. This year’s edition is taking place in Los Angeles and will kick off on May 3, running until May 8.
