Samsung Display's first 83-inch QD-OLED panel gets crucial certification

Hopes are rising that Samsung’s 2026 flagship S95H OLED TV might launch in a bigger size, equipped with an 83-inch QD-OLED panel, instead of a WOLED display supplied by its arch-rival LG.

Samsung Display currently manufacturers QD-OLED panels for TVs in 55-inch, 65-inch and 77-inch sizes, which means it has to source the displays for its larger and smaller TV models elsewhere. The result has been a kind of OLED panel lottery, where consumers don’t necessarily know exactly what kind of display their TV will have, unless they do their homework. In what felt like an effort to offer more clarity, Samsung did not announce an 83-inch version of the S95H, but today's report may change that.

That's because Samsung Display has now submitted its first-ever 83-inch QD-OLED panel to the UL Solution’s database, which is a key step in getting the technology certified for consumer adoption. X user Fury was the first to spot the listing, which submits the product for “QuantumView” verification.

According to Samsung Display, its entire QD-OLED lineup was “successfully evaluated, maintaining over 60% luminance even at a 60-degree viewing angle, while demonstrating minimal color shift of less than 0.012 Δu’v’ (Delta u’v’). This ensures consistent image quality across a wide range of applications, from TVs to dual monitors and professional reference displays.”

UL Solution’s database lists multiple QD-OLED panel sizes, including 24-, 27-, 31-, 34-, 49-, 55-, 65-, 77- and 83-inch models, with the smaller variants being designed for use in monitors. The 24-inch panel is also a new size.

Rumours of an 83-inch QD-OLED panel first emerged way back in November 2024, when Samsung listed an 83-inch OLED display of unknown description in its own parts database. But it later transpired that the listing pertained to the 83-inch S95F TV, which debuted last year with a WOLED panel.

But what isn’t clear yet is if the confirmed 83-inch QD-OLED panel will end up in Samsung’s S95H OLED TV, which has just been reviewed by HDTVTest’s Vincent Teoh, who noted that it offers “stunning HDR pictures” and many other dazzling features:

Presently, Samsung has only confirmed 55-, 65- and 77-inch S95H TVs, but news of the listing increases the chances that it may extend that lineup with the new 83-inch panel. Then again, the company could be holding back the new panel for next year, which would mean it debuts in what will presumably be called the S95I TV, if Samsung continues with its current naming convention.
